As for gloves, in my experience they only come on once you got a casualty. If you have time. They are not there to prevent a dirty wound from getting even dirtier as you'll be administering antibiotics within the first hour anyway. They are only there to protect yourself as you're the only one who hasn't been down to the local whore village. If the gloves tear during treatment you'll pull another set straight over, as by this stage you're as stressed as a priest being shown the evidence by Plods paedo investigation unit and cant be dealing with trying to get them off. But you'll nick them on the stretcher and are a pain when inserting needles, prepping IO drills or messing about with the tape!
Anyway, only my experience.
