Any Info on this picture?

Basically I know very little about my Dads service life. I'm now sadly out of communication with him and this is the only picture I have of him in any shape or form in uniform (the rest are in his civ's).

Can anyone shed any light on it?? I know nothing!! Regiments and Corps / Divisions / Brigades / Unit anything you can tell me will be helpful.

I'm guessing he's around 20-30 in the picture which makes it around the 1970-80's but I cant even be specific about that. I believe he did go to the Falklands though which may help but I cannot confirm this 100%

Cap badges in the background look like sappers. Cant really tell what he is as most units have attached REME, chefs etc.

What medal is he getting presented?

Thats the only pic I have and thats a scan. I've been asking around and might be some other pictures but nothing 100% Talking to some family sappers seems to be on the right track so tha ks for that!

Not sure what hea getting presented but will ask maybe someone knows!

its not a passing out photo mate as he has a rank of L/CPL (lance corporal) and he's getting a medal. judging by the collar dogs (badges on the collar) i think he was REME (Royal electrical mechanical engineers) but not sure do you know what he did as a job when he left the army it might shed some light on it?

Only thing I know was he was recently a manger at a glass factory.. (don't think that helps what so ever).

I've been in contact with my cousin (who I've not spoke to in the best part of 20 years) last night shes speaking to him mum tonight so hopefully in I can shed some light on this myself soon thanks for the help thus far though guys!

I may regret saying this, but have a look on ARRSE. There is a military history section and that part of the site is fairly safe.

Well only information I garnered from family is that he was in the Falklands & possibly Germany at some point. Its wierd how fast things move I've now got family I've not see in 20 years searching attics for more information!

Well its a funny world ending up talking to my dad!!! Cheers for the help guys.

From what he said the picture is him getting a medal for the falklands and that he spent some time with commando's!
