General Ops Vest
7 March, 2013, 23:04
Hey guys
So I'm ditching the traitorous american-ish, general, homogenous 'SF' kit that I've been using for a while and am finally trying to put together a decent brit kit. No mtp yet as of - I'm starting off with a dpm/ddpm kit because that's what I've got already. And a MK6.
My main question is, how used was the general ops vest and who used it? I know it wasn't used nearly as much as plce and can't find many pictures of it without being linked to websites selling webtex versions... Does anyone have any pictures they could show/link? Would be of much help in making it semi-accurate.
Thanks

Re: General Ops Vest
Used by pretty much anyone. Infantry types used it alot on Telic and the early Herrick/Fingal tours.
Is usually seen with the ammo pouches changed to the PLCE type. An auction site may have them.

Re: General Ops Vest
I have one made for infantry trials in the 90s and by the 2000s they were very popular.
The only issue i had with them was that there was no bayonet frog but thats irrelevant for airsoft. I found you could attach a frog to the rear adjuster straps though.
Do you want an ops vest, i've got a spare one if you dont already have one.

This is pretty much what i'd wear in the field... its clearly my back garden and my pouches are conspicuously empty and my boots are in rag order but you get the idea.
Ops vest over a sas smock, solider 95 trousers, jungle boots and barbour gloves
Thats pretty much what i was using as my kit for exercises early 2000s

Re: General Ops Vest
If you Google "Assault Vest (MoD Pattern)" you'll find the place I bought mine from a few years back. They don't fetch much these days as they're not Gucci, but when PLCE was all the rage these were the item to have.

Thanks Gadge, already got one! Have had it for a while just lying around being unused but now I know it's legit for an early 2000s kit I'll start working on one of those. Much easier on the wallet than a SEALs loadout or other some such nonsense :p

Re: General Ops Vest
I got issued one in 07 but never really used it. The only time I did use it, I thought was ok, but the ammo pouches are clip not Velcro so are a bit tricky to do one handed. I ended up gluing Velcro to it to allow for quick access and closing.
Cosmetically the pouches are a bit baggy and it can look a bit shoddy if you don't have something in every pouch.
If you want something cheap and convenient though, I would probably say get one.
