Gulf War 1 SAS
14 August, 2010, 11:50
Hi, I'm after advice on GW1 SAS loadout.
Does anyone know where to get pre soldier 95 desert trousers?
Would the assault vest be sprayed/camouflaged? It's a little shiny at the moment!

Re: Gulf War 1 SAS
The only other variant of the desert DPM was a four colour pattern that was scrapped just before the invasion of iraq as it was so similar to the camo used by the Iraqis.
The also used the Pattern 42 chest rig and the issue Olive PLCE.

Re: Gulf War 1 SAS
i heard for around the 'bravo2zero' time they used cream emulsion (wall paint) to camo their webbing etc, or something along those lines

wouldnt be surprised because the last time british fought in a desert environment was the 60's so desert paint wouldn't have be top of the qm's list

What you need never is.
I would put a few streaks of brown/tan on the webbing and look at finding an old pair of desi trousers but it looks quite good.
The did wear a reasonable amount of just normal DPM too in the pics I have seen.

Re: Gulf War 1 SAS
personally i would just get wall paint for the rig and just use a brand of spray that you can pick up in any DIY store , i doubt they had specialist paints like krylon back in 1991
In the actual bravotwozero op i heard the lads covered their Webbing in PVA glue and rolled it along the nearest beach before they went over there.
in the sean bean film they just had earth brown stripes on the m16s and minimis which i though was cool
but nice look mate its a bit out the regular

Re: Gulf War 1 SAS
chris painted his yeah, i always thought that would have created some cool texture on the vest as well.
Also how would you spray up and M16/203 for dessert e.g. colours/pattern?

Sorry but you do realise the camo the Iraqis used was the British stuff?
The Brits made it then sold it to them as they didn't think they would invade?

You could just do a light spray of paint over the rifle and gl. It wouldnt cover the entire rifle but would make it less obvious.

Wasn't the paint technically pink then, hence the pink panther land rovers?

Re: Gulf War 1 SAS
Just read and look at the pics in Bravo Two Zero and The One That Got Away for ideas.
I think what you really need is lots of warm kit!
