I personally would be very surprised to see SAS CT wing using a G36C.
But as you say, who knows
why?

I'm guessing because his dad's mate isn't ex-SAS. Unlikely I know, but it could happen...

G36C are in the armoury but the last picture i was lucky enough to be shown had L119A1 in 10" or 10.5" (whatever) format.
The 36C is used for when they work with Police Teams to blend in a bit i guess?
I'd guess so too, but again, who knows for sure...

Well a G36C isn't designed for close quarter battle is it?
If they wanted to up the caliber of CQC fighting then i'm sure the MP7 will be on the top of the list. MOD already knows the MP7 and what it's capable of.
I know it's got a folding stock, but the rifle itself was designed to be used as a field infantry rifle. CT teams such as the SAS use smaller SMG's like the MP5 for a reason.
That's my opinnion atleast. I wasn't trying to sound like I was stating a fact, but I would be very surprised to see SAS CT teams using the G36C.

Because sticking to what you know normally works best, why use a 5 for situations where no armour is deemed present and then have a toss up over which 5.56 you're going to use when most of the time you're using an L119, if armour is suspected.

Hate to drag this discussion on....
But armour is always suspected. They still use MP5's but they train for headshots. I know it's sounds abit of a cliche but it's true.

I'm not disagreeing with you, as CD said, you go with what you know, but then Gatwick Airport isn't exactly an open battlefield (other parts of Crawley maybe...) but the Police patrolling there use the G36C

Re: SAS - Black/Blue Kit
I've asked my neighbour, who's an armed response officer, what load they use in their G36's and all he did was wink and shake his head. He's normally happy to get into gun conversations, but he clammed-up on this one.
As far as I knew, 9mm was always the preferred round for use in urban policing and CT roles due to the reduced chance of through-and throughs. If they up the calibre then surely they must have reduced the charge in the rounds to allow for this, or are using some type of round with reduced penetration (such as Hydra Shoks).
I'd be interested to know.

When I was walking through heathrow I spotted the Armed officer with a G36c, he had a magazine locked onto the loaded mag, if you know what I mean?
I saw clearly a 5.56 on the top. You could also see through the magazine that it was loaded with 5.56's. (Slightly overkill in my opinnion but hey ho).

Re: SAS - Black/Blue Kit
The 5 is used because it is closed bolt, very accurate and the round doesn't fly though a wall and kill granny on the other side, having used the L119 in Iraq for kicking in doors, its spread across into a world where the enemy might be more prepared than 5 students with hand guns and crap Russian nades that dont go off ala Nimrod.
Having spent time doing CTR and working out who they are going up against, that would be when the correct tool for the job was cracked out.
Head Shot is a myth, you go for centre mass until the thing you are shooting at is on the floor.
The 36c would be used at airports for ranged shots and the need to put the person down quick, the through and throughs would be little issue if a bomb went pop.

36 for patroling (usually in the boot of the ARV) , mp5 for organised close quarters raids

I know they're 5.56, but I'm interested to know if they have specially lightened loads.
