its not that unlikely is it?

I was just thinking as body armour is more available a .45cal would be more likely to put the target down right? allowing the head shot? I'm guessing it still wouldn't penetrate the armour but it would knock them down easier right? I'm no expert on it though I'm just suggesting...

The Pigskin vest isn't used anymore, last vest I know has been used was the ISPL one, got one sat here at my feet, but IF you can fins one, it's going to cost you MIN of £200 and finding one is a big IF. Police used them too to a slightly different pattern.

Not knowing what they wear now is a matter or OPSEC, something they are rather good at! I've seen some pretty cool photos but ive never had the info shared with me which is fair enough and to be honest if I had, i wouldn't pass it on. Anything past say 2005 needs to be kept quiet till its old hat.

My best guess would be the black kit has kind of gone with the threats they are up against, its not so much siege work now as quick neutralisation of a threat carrying weapons and or Self initiated devices.

The Police teams are now much more equipped to deal with Siege type affairs with a lot of cross training going on.

I would say a modern blade would be wearing kit much more akin to the Direct Action pics we all know and love from Iraq, moving away from a dedicated "Black kit" but that last statement is a best guess based on titbits ive picked up along the way and might be totally wrong, thats half the fun of it all, the truth is, very boring.

There are only a couple of reasons to move away from SOP and go for the head, neither will be shared here i'm afraid.

Police and SF still train for centre mass.

When you have a nice scope and a bit of time against someone who cant shoot you back from the range you are at, you have that luxury. Bursting into a room and working out who is who, you dont.

No idea what the current SAS use. As mentioned above, the line between SAS and SO19 is probably quite blurred in terms of appearance and loadout.

I'd be tempted to just got for the 'classic' SAS look from the Embassy siege...

Reminds me of that bit in Hot Fuzz when Danny says something along the lines of " Is it true that if you shoot a man in the head it will explode"!

A proper Nimrod impression is as hard to do as a decent modern one, lack of info, lack of kit and lack of money will get in the way.

Who has heard of Len Dixon?

The sas use anything that shoots. In Northern Ireland they tested the styer aug and the g3 was used a lot in the 70s.MP5s are used in counter terrorist situations because of its 9x19mm low velocity parabellum round they also use m16s m4s Demacos aks and even lsw's and for psd mp5k sig226.They used the browning Hi Power but now its the sig226.
as for load outs any thing that works but in counter terrorist mainly the same as what the police use.

Oh and for cqb id say they would use a folding stock as you rarely look down the sight or shoulder a weapon in a small space.

acording to the uk army websight, they do use g36c at some point...
as well as m4s, l85s, mp5s, g3s, and an asortment of other weapons....
