Bemused bewilderment, and an addiction to watching Coronation Street and Eastenders (Emmerdale if you're from the north) with 32 other men on a tv with no vertical hold to complete the look.
Jeans, dessie boots, white socks and a t shirt with your unit's badge on it on the lash.. grass stains on knees optional. Kebab and 20 Embassy de rigeur.
LOL that is about right! You forgot the glassed over eyes from being the stag bitch doing duty in the tower and the loss of hair from cabin fever due to being shut in with the same lads for weeks on end!

Re: British Army in NI during operation Banner
Lose the Union flag on the left sleeve (back in the 80's, we knew which army we were in, so did the locals!), tighten your webbing, sort out those puttees so they're level, and for all that is holy OPEN YOUR EYES!!!
Pretty good though. Stag on...
Any opinions expressed by me may not be mine. I don't have opinions anymore. I have a mortgage and teenagers. I used to be a wild, party animal. Now I buy my trousers at M & S.

Ammo pouches on the wrong way round dude! Swap them over before the badge sees you!

Re: British Army in NI during operation Banner
Indeed, not a bad first attempt at all.
Also, I don't know if it was common practice across the province but my old unit sop was to use a rifle sling attached the rear sling swivel and then looped around your right wrist to stop the rifle being taken from you.
The only drawback to this was that you could be dragged into the crowd by it as well!

Cheers mate , that would be my SLR . Now it's summer i might put the wood back on it again.
We do also have a FAL and FAL Carbine though .
Just got myself an M16-A1 (WE) so I might have to do some more NI pics etc

The dog in the first pic would be more accurate if it was a bit more mangy and perhaps missing an eye or a leg.
