Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
27 November, 2011, 22:57
So, this will mainly be a question towards the servicemen/ex-servicemen of our armed forces.
What do you think about people wearing British Army regimental patches, flashes, insignia in their British airsoft loadouts? I've spoken to some guys who are completely fine with it, whereas I've heard of other guys who'd rather they weren't worn in airsoft.
I've just got some Commando flashes on my UBACS and I'm still weighing up whether I should wear them when I skirmish, so far it's been fine, but I don't want to offend anyone one day.
If you've got any further thoughts to add, please let me know in the comment section.
(mods, if you consider this to be in the wrong section, please feel free to move thread)

This has been asked before.
As long as you dont go swanning about slaiming to be ex service and so on. it shouldnt be a problem. if you want to wear it as part of your load out then its up to you. just dont go abusing it, as some people do and no one can really say anything against it.

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
Commando flashes = not really a big problem for most people.
Commando flashes + green lid = filling in if there happens to be a booty around.
As said, wear them with respect and you should be OK. I wear unit insignia and a beret, but as it's Brasizilian military police I doubt anyone's going to a) see me who's serving/ex unit b) care and c) think I'm walting. I do personally believe specialist units and berets (in general) should be avoided unless you've got a connection to them such as a relative who's served and it's their kit you're wearing.

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
My view is wear what ever you like, as long as you are not taking on somebody elses identity whats the problem. Who cares if its a real unifrom? As long as you dont disrespedct the uniform or the people who wore it. Also like others have said, wear it but remember you are not a real SAS or serviceman. Some A holes act like they are or have been in the military. Mainly its non military types who object to people wearing said items more so than actuall serving personnal. As they have better things to worry about .

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
Commando flashes are okay, but not 100% on the green beret and badge as they are earnt through blood and sweat. I completed the all arms course back in mid 90's and it was the hardest thing I've done but I don't wear my beret on a skirmish. I suppose its down to, if the person is wearing it for a bit of a laugh then no, but if he's wearing it to complete a well put together loadout and the beret is essential for authenticity, then yes because the chances are they will respect it as it's cost hard earned money to put the loadout together. Some serving and ex booties may have a different opinion and I am not and never was a bootie, just an ex RN aircraft tech who needed the all arms.

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
In my opinion, flashes are ok as long as they respect and dont act like they are part of that regiment etc. Rank slides are ok as long as they are for the loadout and for both its ok if they are rightfully earned.
Cant express how annoyed it gets me when i occasionaly wear my sgt slides and then some 12 year old kid comes along with Csgt slides and thinks hes better than me and can boss me around.. Pisses me off to no end!

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
Its a game. Its not real life.
Having said that I wear major slides as a joke because its me that does all the running about sorting out dates for the team to play. I do all the work therefore i'm the boss - simples.
In real life I wear rank slides but my real life slides are different to my airsoft slides.
Does it piss me off when others wear flashes insignia and rank - not one bit......i've even seen a field marshal playing!!

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
Difficult one for me... I think if I saw somebody with qualification wings during a game I would be ok with it? I am unsure how I would feel / react if I saw somebody in a maroon beret giving it large, P company was hell on earth, it didn't get much better afterwards but they were earned as they should be... I know it is a game / sport and all that and people want to look the part, even now that part of my life is long since gone I would not dream of badging up.
That sort of makes sense to me?
Other side of that is having seen some WW2 players I was a bit awkward with the SS lightning runes being displayed. I might need to get over myself.
Problems? Problems? There is no problem I cannot solve with this...

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
As a career civilian I wouldn't dream of it.
I even feel uneasy wearing DPM, I much prefer the 'PMC' look or a plain black security loadout, anything without insignias basically. I play this game for the sport of it, it all strikes me a bit 'fancy dress' sometimes, though that is just my jaded opinion. I must admit, I do appreciate the effort some people put in to look and act authentic, but I couldn't do it.
It's fairly black and white to me, if you haven't earned it through being knee deep in shit, blood, sweat and tears for the privilege, you don't wear it. Simples.

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
in a modern / currently issued loadout especialy brit kit. im fine with regiment badges as a mark of respect as a lot of people have friends or relatives serving, but definately not keen on berets and the like unless earned.
as for historical or out of issue loadouts such as ww2 or namsoft id say go for it as those units with that kit are no longer current.

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
am i right in thinking black berets would cause the least amount of unease? as this seems to be the standard colour for a lot of nations? whereas things like the maroon beret signify paratrooper, green = royal marine commando's and tan is mainly for for US Rangers.
seems black is basic us army issue, and seems to be the standard for armoured units (as it doesnt show the oil and grease)
asking as my team would are getting berets for a larp event (unrelated) and as its mostly the same ppl, we'd like to use the same berets for our airsoft team

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
as ex forces, it tickles me pink, seeing weekend warriors in dpm with rank slides, badges, the lot, badly shaped berrets, and a random miss match loadout, AK, HK assault vest, serpa drop legs ect...
I cant however judge on what others dress up in... I dress up for charity as Darth Maul!

Re: Wearing British Army insignia in airsoft?
im serving, i dont see the problem with it as long as they are worn in context. for example someone in a pair of jeans, a bdu shirt and two mp5k's wearing sf wings and a dagger then im not a fan! however if someone is in a full loadout, ment to look like a para for example as long as they are pulling off a mondern day reenactment look i dont see the problem, no one complains about vietnam reenactment type players or even ss style loadouts!
that said its a game and we all pay to play our own way, i prefer milsim so i cant have ago at a happy softer unless its a milsim game!
boobies make me smile
