For the most part it's very much Diemacos; in Afghanistan at least.
There's a lot of myth, hearsay, rumour and supposition
already
on this thread - I shudder to think what it'll be like ten pages-in! Mind you, that's how they like it I guess.

Re: Special Reconnaissance Regiment?
Please, it's not. They aren't a frontline unit, they are heavily weighed towards CQB and that's only if they need to!
I do have some knowledge about this matter.
The fact they take people from across the board from stewards in the RAF to engineers in the navy. If they were a full fighting force it would be restricted like the SAS and SBS.
I don't deny they do use other weapons platforms but they are most heavily trained on pistols and PDW style weaponry.
Most of the pictures above are them doing basic combat manoeuvres on Salisbury plain and some range work.
The fact they spend most of their time sat somewhere learning patterns and gaining intel as their name suggests.
I can also tell you to get in you have to have done a minimum 5 years service, have a clean record, a driving license and no visible tell tails like visible tattoos, birth marks ect.
A CFT has to be completed before going but once there it's all about effort shown and personality.
So instead of going "they use diemaco M scrimpson doobly cos they are teh leet special forces, I know cos I saw a TV program!" actually read what's been said and take it from people/someone with some knowledge in the matter.
These people are trained to a higher level than almost any other force on sidearm and PDW/SMG techniques in the world, these men and women could teach Chris Costa a thing or 2.
section 24 of the 1968 Act
Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

Yes, I know.
I do have some knowledge about this matter.
As do I of course.

Salisbury Plain? Seriously? Bit of a trek considering they have Sennybridge right on their doorstep!

How little you actually know. It's one of the most physically arduous training courses in the Forces. It's fucking nails compared to SAS training. A CFT?... really?... come on.

Please don't patronise.

Indeed!

Re: Special Reconnaissance Regiment?
Surely unless youve served with, actually know someone with the regiment people should stop stating 'facts'....I beleive Panoptes has actually served with them so I should take what he says as more accurate than wikipedia or 'I heard from my mates girlfriend brothers dads dog' type posts.
Pictures do not always give accurate facts. In on picture they may be using Dimicoes, in another they may be using Sig pistols! Different taskings require different kit.

, they are trained for the just in case scenario. But as the name suggests the are Reconnaissance specialists.
Neither are units such as the Signals but theyre still issued with an 'assault rifle'...how many times do they assault anything on ops except for the odd one or two attached to an inf/ cav unit...

I've only picked on a few points,

They are part of UKSF, the pointiest bit of the pointy end. Not only do they conduct covert surveillance but deploy on strike ops with SAS/SBS to help secure, gather and exploit int that is found.
I do have some knowledge about this matter.
Googling doesn't count as knowledge.
The fact they take people from across the board from stewards in the RAF to engineers in the navy. If they were a full fighting force it would be restricted like the SAS and SBS.
One of the pictures you've shown is of a 'Special Forces Infantry Skills Course', this is a course run for all applicants who volunteer for UKSF selection that are not from an infantry background to bring them to the required basic standard. Further advanced skills are taught as part of continuation training.
I don't deny they do use other weapons platforms but they are most heavily trained on pistols and PDW style weaponry.
All volunteers before arriving for selection are to be current and competent on Rifle, Pistol (Browning or Sig), LMG, GPMG and Grenades. As part of the training they are converted to C8 and Sig 226 (if not already) As part of continuation they are trained on the HK series and foreign weapons (AK series).
Most of the pictures above are them doing basic combat manoeuvres on Salisbury plain and some range work.
The training is conducted in the Brecon Beacons and on Sennybridge training area.
A CFT has to be completed before going but once there it's all about effort shown and personality.
A PFT followed by a CFT in boots is the basic day one standard of fitness, there is still phys most days and most of this involves hills.
So instead of going "they use diemaco M scrimpson doobly cos they are teh leet special forces, I know cos I saw a TV program!" actually read what's been said and take it from people/someone with some knowledge in the matter.
I don't need to read what's written, take into account there may be some of us who float on the peripheries of airsoft for business reasons and will have a great deal of personal knowledge about such subjects, where as some, who are TA or nig recruits and just fanboys like you, will always attempt to billy big time it.

@SeanSamurai
Despite continuous efforts to disrupt the old UKSF thread (And failing many, many, many times) you felt it necessary to continue. However, in light of recent comments, may I just say this...
You know when you've been tango'd!

Re: Special Reconnaissance Regiment?
That is correct andy.
I'm also no 'fanboy'.
I have experience to a degree of what goes on.
I left a couple of posts on the old UKSF thread stating that SF could and do use other kit than stated!
I getting the feeling one or two people here are in not so many words calling me a Walt!
So grow the balls you were supposed to get and just say it!
Then you can post up an apology when it's proved I'm truthful in what I say!
However I am going to retreat from the thread as it has gone a farly similar way to the old UKSF thread. Believe what you wanna believe really!

Last time I looked on the RAF intranet, the only restrictions on applying for the SF was age ( under 30) and service (3 years minimum I think it was). It was a case then of putting in a gen app signed off by your line management.
SSR is the same gen app because I signed one off for one of my lads.
You can be anyone from any were as long as you can pass the course. Don't forget it is RAF PJI's that train them for para jumping so lets not get too leet over this. As moose said, you get brought up to standard if you are not a teeth arm
Bearing in mind recce means not getting caught and that the work is fundamentally very dull and boring ie sitting, watching and waiting, let's not get too excited over it. Alot of the skills will be mental skills eg memory, observation, the ability to blend in. Yes there is an element of pointy end stuff, but this is not the bread and butter. Don't forget that the majority of SAS work prior to the end of the cold war was sitting, watching and observing, not kicking in doors. Now that they are busy kicking in doors and so busy on other stuff they need a dedicated group to take over that role, and yes kind of an off shoot of 14 Int (but that is a whole other messy area!)

Re: Special Reconnaissance Regiment?
Just keeping tabs.
Snowdrop, not in the slightest aimed at you buddy, very good post tbh.
@ rasta, would a Walt say he is currently an LET(ME) that's no joke, it changed in 2007 when the new branch structures came out! Used to be LMEM.
It stands for leading engineering technician marine engineer. Joined in December 2000 at HMS raliegh, went on for career training at HMS sultan in Pompey! Past out in June and joined HMS Coventry in July, before you say that was sunk in the Falklands, this was the type 22 batch 2 frigate pennant was F98!
Once decommissioned I joined HMS Campbeltown just in time for the kick off of gulf war 2 where we spent 7 months in the NAG and every so often popping down to the SAG!
I've also had Cumberland, Somerset, Cornwall back to the Campbeltown now currently standing on the quarter deck of HMS Northumberland being duty weekend!
As a side note my SN starts with a D249, I was the last entry of the D24 numbers, it went to D25, then 26 and currently all SNs start with a 3 to fall inline with triservice.
I've done lots of stuff I can talk about and stuff I can't talk about in my 11 year 1 month and 15 day career!
So before calling someone out be able to fu*kin well prove it!
Being duty and only having Dii intranet it's hard to send pictures so Monday would have to do if you want to be proved further wrong!
Should you look back at UKSF you might also find there were troll posts above mine and my posts stuck to the thread!

Re: Special Reconnaissance Regiment?
Cool, well done you. I'm currently a civvy as of three months ago after 15 years in the Army, I was an Aviation Crewman in the AAC, I'm only left a Cpl but that's because I lost 4 years when I transferred across from the Rifles. I left them as a section commander, got tired with the infanteers life also after failing SF selection I decided I needed something different. In total I took part in 2 ground tours of Iraq, 2 of Afghanistan, on transfer I went on a further tour of Telic and completed another Herrick. I failed selection on the hills phase I just wasn't on the pace, with hindsight a little more training and I would've been there. But oh well.
As for you being a Walt, well that's not true. However you're a navy pumper, what the fuck would you know about soldiering? the closest you've come to combat is fighting for the last bun in the galley. If people would like genuine information I can give it. I accumulated a wide range of skills and knowledge serving in two of the most minging theatres we've been deployed in of recent times. I learnt a lot and am more than happy to pass that on to those that would like it.

But the point is Sean, you where giving absolute crap info on this subject so instead of giving your life story do some research before you start preaching.
