Sir I say dam you and your dins! As far as plates go you can get plates to fit from US retailers and the covers are not withheld to the publuc. If any forces member is dumb enough to sell there kit let them. One day they will get there comeuppance!
Remember that if you want to do british layouts you dont need osprey. To co's discretion a soldier can use his own plate carrier as long as issued plates fit. Something to bear in mind if people want to challenge the norm.

Re: Contemporary British Loadout
You've got to use the osprey now, but a few years back troops were issued all sorts of different kit some soldiers had mk7's and mk4's and mtp some didn't it was luck of the draw hawke there wasnt enough to go round yet some airsoftera had this vital kit just to look the part.
unfortunately people lost there lives who could of been saved if they were wearing decent protection it's not a case of "my mate knows a guy" or heard this it's I know friends of mine that have been killed due to such circumstances

Re: Contemporary British Loadout
But surely the lives would still have been lost unless they were the actual guys selling their kit to airsofters?
Lets face it, most of this illegal kit is sold by squaddies for a few extra beer tokens ad then they'll either claim it's lost, or rob someone elses to replace it
You can't blame airsofters for buying kit that should never have been sold in the first place

Re: Contemporary British Loadout
Most if the kit from around that time was stolen not sold by squaddies lives would have been saved if there was more kit to go round for example fatal wounds to the unprotected areas of the older ospreys that are now covered with plates I won't bother going into detail

Re: Contemporary British Loadout
I agree with Fizzy on this, as uncomfortable as it does sit.
Soldiers, sailors etc have forever traded their kit with allies or sold it to anyone who wanted it to get a few quid. It's not a new thing since the introduction of MTP.
99% of people boycotted buying kit like that then all that would happen is that the 1% that do buy it would get it for an absolute steal: it would still be sold.
So I look at it like this - it's for sale so if you want it buy it. If you don't someone else will and thus no problem is solved. It sounds harsh but it is a fact.
You could ask people how it sits with them buying kit like this? Well I personally don't buy armour and never have. Sure I've got a Mk6 helmet dated to 1989 that I got last week but I can't see anyone missing out as a consequence but these days with the bonkers levels of PPE no soldier would be allowed to patrol without a MK4 Osprey would they?

I thought the one you can buy direct from the manufacturer was slightly different to that which is actually issued? Not entirely sure though, I don't have access to either, so going by what I've heard and a few pictures. Not that I'd spend that on a PC anyway, the RS RAV and 6094 I have are about the most I am ever going to spend on that sort of thing, no matter nearly double on an Osprey.
You can by the MK4 Osprey from the manufacturer but I am not allowed to state who that is due to the forum rules (I have received two infractions in the last week!) but you can find it if you look.

i totally agree mate, my local surplus shop often gets hold of mk7 helmets and they go straight out of the shop in a few days from airsofters and as for mk 4 ospray i was in there asking what he would give me for some old combat body Armour and a guy in the shop thought i said mk4 ospray and offered me £900 if it had plates! (this was around the time it was new issue) i asked what for and he said airsoft! to be honest i couldnt believe my ears, why an earth would someone pay that just to look good!

Re: Contemporary British Loadout
You can order the Mk4 from the UK manufacturer for £300 or £400 with the pouches. No need to buy them on the bay. And its perfectly legal.

I already know who manufactures the Osprey. I think the one they sell to the public is slightly different to the issued. Look at the shoulder pads and camo fabric - called ATP or some such.
What I was saying is, having seen both, I don't think they look identical, but having handled neither, I can't be sure. Certainly close enough for an impression if you were mental enough to spend the money.

ATP is all terrain pattern they make loads of kit in it. It's not bad as a match goes.
The non issue Osprey is mostly the same and will do as a substitute if you morally could not get a proper one.

i'd love to know how one got hold of one inc the belt with armour inside....cause there are many soldiers who cant even get hold of them and the groin protectors.... i think they are utter b*stards tbh and should be done.

still think they are utter b*stards they are prancing round an airoft site getting shot at by sub 500fps bb's and soldiers in afgan are getting blown up by ied's and loseing there lives, you can get mk7's on the bay ospreys and mk7's are allover the place( ebay) lets face it they dont want them handed back after a tour they are rotten and arent allowed to be passed on anyway most of the stuff gets burned

shouldnt be allowed at all fair enough with the osprey covers although i dont agree with non armed forces playing with the full plates in as they shouldnt have them the side plates and inner soft armour are part of the package but the large plates front and back are not

Regarding blokes selling their issued kit, I think it would just be dealt with as theft.
Although the monkeys arent exactly on the ball as according to the unit at Aldershot they can not search a civilian address, despite the possibilty of there being live rounds and pyrotechnics.
Right. Jsmitty. In the first post you seem to find "losing" your kit funny (possibly for profit?), yet afterwards you advocate stringing people up for using this "lost" kit. Make your mind up if you're going to be outraged
Rifleman93: Monkeys, be they RAFP, RMP, RNP
CAN
search civvy addresses as long as there is reasonable suspicion. If they want, MOD Plod will get called in, and they have shockingly far reaching powers.
Anyway, either back on thread folks, or Mods please lock as it's going down the same tedious route as before.
Any opinions expressed by me may not be mine. I don't have opinions anymore. I have a mortgage and teenagers. I used to be a wild, party animal. Now I buy my trousers at M & S.
