Vest advice required
16 September, 2011, 12:43
I'm starting from the ground up (or rather head down) with a fresh loadout.
I have so far:
TM FAMAS
viper M88 helmet (black)
S10 Gas mask (black)
Tracpac Light patrol boot (black)
And the key ingredient I am missing is a vest. I need it to not look out of place with my headgear yet still be appropriate if I wear camo or black underneath it.
I was looking at the viper hong kong police vest, anyone have experience with these? Or could recommend a vest? Needs to be cheap, no more than £30.
Cheers

Re: Vest advice required
South african assault vest by viper imo, its around £25-£30. can get it in black and dpm and for airsoft they are fine, can carry as much gear as you want.

Re: Vest advice required
You can get nice Bulle chest rigs for 25-30 that you can wear high or low, are MOLLE but have space for four of your mags on the front and a util pouch on each side. Also has space to attach a hydration carrier on the back. I think you can get OD/CB and perhaps black too.

Re: Vest advice required
I've got a WebTex crossdraw vest in black for sale if you're interested?
http://www.zeroin.co.uk/showthread.p...ghlight=webtex
Personally I'd stay away from the SA Assault Vests, the mag placement on them isn't great

Re: Vest advice required
Viper SA's can be had for £15 2nd hand, they are a common "first vest" and quickly ditched when something better is found. A Webtex assault vest or similar will be a better choice.
Also, re: the S10. The standard lenses in them aren't impact resistant. Even 300fps will crack and shatter them. Don't use it in game unless you have the ballistic anti-flash outserts fitted or have replaced them with something impact resistant.

I thought this might come up - don't worry, they are the proper lenses that will stop a shot gun shell.
So you guys would advise against the hong kong police vest?
I'll check out the other ones you mentioned tonight

Re: Vest advice required
I've had the UK assault vest and thought it was very good except of course it's DPM which you weren't looking for. I'd always say go MOLLE where you can afford to tho as then you can carry as much or as little as you want. When I had the assault vest I couldn't fill all the pockets so it felt silly lol.

I'd say they're alright, although pretty flimsy and overpriced for what you get. With a limited budget it might be worth hanging around a few forum classifieds and snagging something which would be more expensive second hand.

Re: Vest advice required
Thanks for the offer Fizzy but its not quite the look I am going for.
angel - your right however waiting for something to complete the look I'm going for to come along could take a while.
looking for a SWAT come post-apocalypse soldier come resident evil umbrella corporation soldier type vest.
I have stumbled across these:
Tactical USMC MOLLE Assault Vest Black
Airsoft Wargame Paintball Tactical SDU Body Armor Vest Black
(punch into google, go to images, first image that comes up)
The MOLLE one was the first one I came across but is only MOLLE on the back, its velcro on the front. full MOLLE vests are expensive! I can get a HK police vest for £25 from a COMBAT shop based in the SOUTH.
and the second one, I'm not sure if the neck brace (which looks really cool) would get in the way of my gas mask as I intend to have the filter attached and it has a lack of pouches and pockets.
This was supposed to be the easy bit lol :S

Go for a black FSBE vest or something similar. They're pretty cheap - A Bulle brand one is only around £35. It'll be entirely adequate for your needs.

I used to have one of these for my CQ loadout, fit was good & quite comfy. only downside's were that the mag pouches were lame & was difficult to breathe if you were heaving. The front part of the neck armour is actually completely removable, I wore it without the front bit wearing an Ao2 mask & it was fine...

What does fsbe stand for? Full molle, looks good. Not sure if I would prefer the hong kong police vest or not (based on looks vs practicality).

To me, the FSBE wins on both of those. It's infinitely more adaptable. You can pick and choose your pouches as per your requirements. You can mount as many as you need (or can fit), in the exact place you need them. I have an FSBE vest, and I can easily carry:
-Pistol in a chest-mounted Serpa holster
-6 MP5 mags
-2 pistol mags
-Utility pouch
-Admin panel
-Double grenade pouch
-Dump pouch
-Hydration pack
-Shotgun shell pouch
and still have room for more.
