What helmets are used?
24 February, 2014, 00:24
Hi all, pretty new to the scene here. I have sourced myself some Gorka and a Smersh webbing set to go with my much unused GHK AK's (not for much longer). I really don't have the funds to pay for a $300 K6-3 replica so I'm wondering what helmets are used alternatively (that are cheaper) and what particularly strikes me is the subtle similarities to the MICH series of helmets. Unless I'm talking out of my arse.
Need something that can fit my dye i4 underneath and still look tacticool at the same time.
Thanks

Re: What helmets are used?
I suppose if you want to cut corners on the helmet you could base it off helmets in use by some TsSN Alfa units, the shape of which is based off the PASGT:
Plastic PASGT replicas can be bought very cheaply from sites which I can't mention on ZeroOne.
To be honest though, unless you went all out with the rest of the gear, Its very hard to pull off the PAGST-but-actually-its-Russian look. The shape is possibly too iconic of NATO forces. It can work, but often it just looks a little.. off.
Thus, my advice is instead to opt for a Kosynka, the bandana very popular with Russian forces, including special forces.
Cheap, lightweight, authentically Russian and available in all sorts of colours and patterns.
Its a shame the helmet replica is off the cards though, they really are good, I have no regrets purchasing my one, even with the £200 pricetag.. I would think if you did some snooping around on forums more..err.. specialised towards the pursuit of Russian and Soviet gear... an Alliance of the Red, if you will, then you might find a second hand K6-3 for a reduced price, possibly.
Either way, best of luck with your loadout!

Re: What helmets are used?
Thanks for all the advice, I will take it on board. I'll use the hood of the Gorka for now but I'll do some research and come up with a headwear solution to help with the look.
Thanks a bunch

Re: What helmets are used?
Oooh, I just remembered. It hasn't seen the same amount of use as something like the K6-3, or its bigger brother the ZSh-1-2M, as far as I am aware, but the ZSh-1 helmet might be the answer to your quandary. There is a website which sells a replica of the ZSh-1 for as little as $120, and if you were to check the aforementioned site of specialist Russian-Soviet gear and discussion, you can find a gentleman by the name of Dexter selling one for $75.
Just a thought

Re: What helmets are used?
I'm going to save up the cash for a ZSH-1 replica (with visor). I'm sure it will be looking good once the kit is all together.
