ak plum parts...
30 January, 2011, 18:33
i've just got myself some plum grips for an aks74u, hopefully i'll fit them to my aksu, shouldn't be to difficult but i have to ask, why?
why did they make them plum, i've looked about and for the life of me and i've found they made them from the mid 80's onwards, fazed them out for black a few years later but i can't find out why they made them purple!
still looks kewl, but seriously some one tell me why!!!
going to get together a Flora kit next, i'll get some photos up of the look i'm after, was going to do a nam kit but F that, moar russian needed!

I wish I could say why they were produced in plum, in fact, I wish I could tell you why they were even made in bakelite before. Alas, even I do not know.

Re: ak plum parts...
yeah, no one knows!
but screw it, they look good, my grips came today, not as plum as i thought, very dark, but still look nice, but don't fit the su at all.
so i'm thinking of getting another 74u and fitting them to it.

Re: ak plum parts...
I never knew they even made plum AKSU furniture, I don't recall ever seeing any.
I guess the plum was probably just a by product of making a plastic with the properties that fitted the requirements. Maybe they were aiming for black and could quite manage it. Soviet plastics weren't quite as well developed in comparison to other materials.

Yeah, I've seen a plum AKSU deact before. Not many about, and I've no idea why plum. I guess someone had a job lot of plum colouring they needed to shift

Re: ak plum parts...
according to the techno lot on a certain AK forum if you do not mix the black dye correctly with the polymer or if you do not add enough it comes out purple/plum so perhaps it was a happy accident?
Just because you can doesn't mean you should......

Re: ak plum parts...
Well yes there is no such thing as true black so the dye will be a purple/blue. Mixed incorrectly it will come out lighter than intended. As I said maybe they just weren't up to making it black at the time.

Re: ak plum parts...
regardless, it looks kewl, i'm on the look out for a nice ak74 to put my plum kit on.
and i'm looking for plum mags.
and i think i may have found an ink that gets the "orange" 74 mags look a bit less orange and fake.

Re: ak plum parts...
Buy any AK-74 mags made by G&P.
They do black, plum, and bakelite ones. The black and plum ones are extremely realistic, they even have the ridges on the rear of the mag that most manufacturers forget about. The bakelite mags are the perfect finish and even have the swirls, they're not flat orange like most airsoft bakelite mags.
The only flaw is that you'll need to slightly file down the rear catch on the mag for it to fit, at least I did for my Cyma's.
It's very simple to do, though. And they work like a dream. And look awesome.
