  • Bolt Action Suppressor - Yay or Nay?

Do you use one, or do you figure you will be so well hidden, or so far away it doesn't make much difference?

I only use one for looks. Most suppressors on the market are mock suppressors anyway so if you do want to suppress the sound of your rifle you will have to fill the suppressor with foam or something.

I use one but only for "cool factor" as it doesn't actually do a great deal LOL

On both a gas and spring platform (although gas is so quiet anyway) suppressors really do make a big difference if well packed with foam. Ensure it is no shorter than 200mm and ensure the foam is segmented. The suppressor will make a huge difference with sub 400fps (less piston noise) and up to 500 it will still greatly reduce the noise coming from the muzzle. Its also must be conscidered that the reduction in sound that the suppressor makes is multiplied 5 fold down range. A certain shop specialising in sniper rifle parts in the UK sells suppressor foam. Cut it into small 2 cm strips and it is very effective.

They are effective on NBB gas guns and Springers, and all the silencers I've ever bought (12+) have had foam inside them already.

              Do it!

They work to varying degrees and the do look tacticool as hell.

My Gemtech Oasis is uber quiet at the gun. From a targets point of view, i doubt they would her it at all over the background noise of a skirmish site.

I add silencers to all my rifles.
On gas guns it makes a huge difference, but is also very affective on spring rifles along as you have the rest of the rifle setup to silence the piston.

Just out of interest, does you Gemtech oasis come packed with foam or did you put some inside the suppressor? I hear of US models without foam and European models with foam due to US legislation. Im looking to purchase one and havent been able to find out.

Re: Bolt Action Suppressor - Yay or Nay?

There are foam baffles in the last 1/4 of the suppressor. The barrel takes up the first 3/4.

It is a sexy shooter, all suppressed guns look cool. Being a NBB helps keep them quiet too, in the same way it does with bolties, no racking of the slide with every shot.

Re: Bolt Action Suppressor - Yay or Nay?

I had a KJW M700 a while ago, that was pretty quiet being gas but it did have a bit of a muzzle crack from the gas.
I fitted a can to it and it was silent to within a couple of feet. It was even quieter than a VSR G-spec.

                          My advice?
Get one, even if it doesn't do much for the sound, it still looks ace.

All the snipers at my local sight swear by their silencers. One showed me the difference on a VSR G-Spec, and it was very noticeable, it removed a lot of the sharpness of the noise, reducing it to a muffled sound.

Suppresors are great on springers where most of the noise "escapes through the barrel" so a good one will make a great difference. There is a shop in Poland (that I can't advertise?) that makes custom silencers depending on Your need.
Any thread any lenghth ops type (covers some of the barrel) or standard anything You'd like but what really makes them stand out from the crowd is the fact that rather than foam, they do proper decompression chambers inside making them even more effective. I have 3 and just ordered another for my m24
