  • Making a barrel extension - opinions needed!

    Hello all!

I have a CQB length M4A1 (G&G Raider) and want to add a barrel extension, screwing onto the thread that normally holds the flash hider. I bought an ICS barrel extension from Zeroin's classifieds but sadly it doesn't fit - the diameter is wider than 14mm. It would be a shame to throw it away so I'm thinking of cutting it down (to where the diameter narrows) and then carving in a 14mm CCW thread to the inside so that it screws onto my existing outer barrel. Does that make sense?

Having no tools myself, what's the best way of doing this?

Having no tools yourself, the best way to go about it is to sell that barrel extension. Then buy one that fits your gun.

Doesn't look like you'll be able to stick a -14mm thread in that anywhere if the main diameter is too big. It may be possible to get a helicoil fitted, but I'm not sure they make negative thread inserts.
    Buy my stuff!

The diameter narrows after a few CMs (see red line below) so I think it could be sawn off at the red line and thread carved into it, it's just how to do it cheaply or where to take it.

Someone like me with access to a machine shop could do it, but unless you have at least some basic equipment, forget it.

the tap for cutting the ccw 14mm thread costs at least 50-70 quid on its own.forget it its going to be cheaper and easier to buy another.

To cut an M14x1mm thread, you need a 13mm hole.
You don't need the £50-£70 HSS taps for use on aluminium or alloy, but the cheaper Carbon Steel ones are still around £40.

Then don't forget the drill, the 13mm bit, the tap wrench, cutting compound lolololol

                  As above, buy another one.

Well, you don't NEED the 13mm drill if you have a lathe and boring bar.

Engineer to the rescue!!!!!! One of my friend runs a custom tooling shop mainly for BMX parts but he'll do airsoft stuff, he did my outer barrel for £15, you just need to send him the barrel and a technical drawing of what you need then you're sorted.

If you don't know how to make a technical drawing i can make you one for diddly squat, mainly cause I need an excuse to play on CAD you

I can Pm you his details if you like
