G&P M249
20 December, 2009, 20:47
Does anyone know anything substantial about these guns?
I have the Ranger version - supposedly stock - and a 9.6v large battery, after giving it the most immense winsome rate of fire ever to be witnessed by humankind... completely killed it.
Also.. the box mag seems to work.. but it has an incredibly, incredibly ridiculously stupid design. Does anyone know where the safety is? And erm.. noob question.. but do M249s have a fire selector? One would assume that they don't, but I just wondered as I couldn't find one.
Any help would be appreciated. And erm, it doesn't appear to have a fuse... so what else might that battery have destroyed?

Re: G&P M249
I think its 8.4v recommended for one thing...
fire selector should be around the pistol grip?

Re: G&P M249
yeah... its it like a cylinder that has a red line around it that I assume you push in.. say red line showing for safe, and then pushed in (red line not showing) for auto and semi if there is such a thing.
And erm, didn't know it was 8.4v rated. can see why, seriously it must've been doing 30+rps. but it was too dark to see if the mag was feeding them all. appeared to be.
another broken gun for me

Re: G&P M249
there are no fire selector's on a 249, the cylinder with the line on is safe/fire

Re: G&P M249

My safety is either very stiff, or very broken. erm.. so the boxmag? any thoughts anyone?

Yeah, safety's not very good on the G&P. Infact, the V2 gearbox is pretty fail on a support gun IMO. So what about the box mag? You only say it has a stupid design, so I'm not sure how we can help? :p

Re: G&P M249
yeah sorry I was kinda tired yesterday when I wrote that!
erm, is there anyway to make it better? is there a good box mag mechanism from another make that i can just drop in to the shell? It looks awesome, but there's no stopper for the bbs.. so if you autowind it they just roll out. not a problem if its in the gun, but when you take it out/if you accidentally press the button its very annoying. and when you come to empty the box mag at the end of the day, whichever way I tip it to get them back out I seem to find them falling out all over the place!

Re: G&P M249
Might be worth seeing if these are compatiable with the A&K box mags, they would be a cheap replacement. Plus if they are it means you could buy some of the CA 1500 round ones aswell they are the dogs for M249's but pricey!

Very much doubt they are. The feed tube goes vertically through into the hop chamber as oppose to up through the side.

Great gun, some guy had one at Bloxworth a few weeks back, issue is they are useless for CQB sites that don't allow Full Auto, as it only has Safe and Auto
Have I bought or sold an item that relates to you recently? If so, please leave me my iTrader

Re: G&P M249
all right pal.
i have a G&P m249. to start with there is no safety at all, the safety you can see is just a cosmetic.
when i first got my 249 it broke, due to me using a 9.6v (after this i used a 8.4v) battery got it repaired supposedly done professionally but the components they used in the gearbox failed to match (resulting in the gears not being lined up properly, fractions of a mill out etc.)with what is in there already causing the gearbox to be built again from scratch as bits of gear went everywhere when it broke lol. all in all a nightmare and very exspensive . i suggest you give it to tackleberry to repair he does an outstanding job, since he repaired mine i must of shot at least 250000 bb's out it if not more alot more and it is still going strong to this day.
cheers marshall

Where abouts are you based? I could have a look at fixing the gearbox for you
I'm in South London if it helps

Re: G&P M249
Well.. although he won't like it, I'll probably end up persuading Keeper to sort the gun for me.. as he is a team member and friend he usually obliges
But thanks for the offer TwinTurboCH, and Marshall thanks for that info, knowing that someone else f***ed it by using a 9.6 means that it probably isn't just mine. I can't believe it gets such an amazing ROF on a 9.6 though! so 8.4 will be plenty!
Shame about the safety though.. that can't be good for safe zones.. and how are you suppsoed to recycle the gun on semi if there's no semi? haha
As for the box mag, I've been working around that lately, figuring out good ways to empty it without spilling bbs out of the tube.
Thanks for the input guys.. and for those of you who remember me putting that blasphemous doctersight on top - you will be pleased to know it now has an ELCAN.
