green gas vs co2 in the winter in gbbrifles
24 December, 2009, 10:03
which is better?
I thought maybe green gas as you dont need specialist mags or such thourough cleaning.
Also to run co2 would the we rifles need upgrading at all.
cheers,
matt

Actually in theory CO2 would need less cleaning as it wouldn't gunk up the barrel and hop rubber as much as green. And as for the upgrades it depends what rifle it's for. If it's a V2/V3 WE then they are built to be able touse CO2 right out of the box. AGM i believe doesn't have a CO2 kit yet

in the winter, c02 is far more reliable, plus no cooldown issues, but thats as far as my knowledge goes,
But there are people out there who know a lot better than me

Re: green gas vs co2 in the winter in gbbrifles
Propane (which is green gas without the silcone oil added) gets effected by the cold temperatures. It stops the gas vaporising efficiently and that makes the Bb's shoot out. (or at least thats how I think it works)
co2 on the other hand does get effected by the cold. Ask any paintball player, or old school escort and such users. I remember seeing my friends pressure gauge ice up after a massive auto blast. Strange to see ice in the middle of the summer! anyway.. co2 just has a higher tolerance to cold temperatures naturally...
If you have a new WE gun, V3 armalite or the SCAR and soon to be HK416 you can use co2 off the bat. I dont know about WA systems. Some Madbull moscarts are co2 ready an' all.

You'll need different mags.
The co2 mags have a hole in the bottom of them where you screw in a small 12g co2 bulb, so all you need to carry are a few of those around and when you run out of gas, inscrew the old bulb and put in a new one.

Co2 is much better than green, whilst you do literally start shooting snow, the markers still work and the gas does not escape the seals and bolt like in an airsoft rifle.
I would use co2 if I could. As an ex paintballer, and playing a lot in the winter, I never had any problems using it.

Re: green gas vs co2 in the winter in gbbrifles
How do you charge the CO2 bulbs? Is it expensive? Ive been using my WE Scar with green, but winter is here now. Ive thought about the use of CO2 mags, but i never knew how to charge the bulbs, or the cost. I dont want to pay a fortune on stuff i dont need, so who can tell me about it all! Sorry if this has been covered, normally id go and look, but i dont have time today and i cant be bothered either to look.
Danke!

You don't charge the bulbs. You buy them. They are 12g bulbs, the more you buy in bulk the cheaper they are.

Re: green gas vs co2 in the winter in gbbrifles
they come pre-filled with co2 (and depending on what brand some have added silicon oil like Crossmans)
You just put them in the hole, twist the cap on the mag so it breaks the seal ontop of the co2 bulb and your ready to go

Re: green gas vs co2 in the winter in gbbrifles
You can run co2 straight into a gas mag if you use an adapter and regulate the pressure. However you would have to find out the required pressure needed as i personaly don't have a clue. I think i read somewhere that green gas is 40psi (may be very wrong though, so don't quote me) And yes you'll need a co2 nozzle if using the co2 mags unless you have a Co2 ready WE. I believe these are V3 models

Re: green gas vs co2 in the winter in gbbrifles
Honestly I wouldn't recommend WE CO2 mags.
I bought 6 and they all leaked to a certain degree.
The design of the seal is terrible and a pain in the ass to get to seal properly.
Really what we need is WE`s gas mags being able to take co2 with madbull`s charger for instance, the gas mags are a hellva lot easier to fix.
