To Bisley or not to Bisley (Tanaka SAA opinions)
31 January, 2013, 17:25
Howdy.
I have a choice of two SAA's i can readily get however I dunno what one to go for, to which ill end up buying another to duel wield in the near future.
Both tanaka but 2 different guns effectively..heres the options
Note! both of these guns are non detachable cylinder models, for the SAA aficionados out there.
Option 1
Tanaka SAA Bisley, Artillery length barrel in a Nickel finish and black grips
Option Two
Tanaka 1st Generation SAA Civilian model in black with real wood grips
Now I know my SAA's and the first generation SAAs means a black powder frame and so tanaka in turn made that model a non detchable cylinder but when tanaka mean 1st generation is that an old gun of theirs or is it new production for 2012/2013 as they often make batches every couple of years..confuzzled.
Anyway what one shall I go for!

C'mon guyyys, ive seen threads about "Aunt Mary giving birth to a baby cow" get more replies than this
what one shall I go for! or what would you go for..
On a side note: a thread about Aunt Mary giving birth to a baby cow would be interesting.

id reply to the cow post you should post that
personally id go for the Civilian model in black with real wood but that's just because i don't like shiny guns and the wooden grips look like they have been made very well

i agree. black one looks nicer. the chrome one is too shiny for an SAA.

I quite like the chrome, but dislike the Bisley grip so I'd got for the black one too.

Personally I would go for the Bisley because I find the Bisley a bit more interesting and fewer of them around. I have never handled one however, would be interesting to see how well the grip frame sits in the hand etc.

Re: To Bisley or not to Bisley (Tanaka SAA opinions)
Thanks for the replies ladies.
I have owned 3 "Traditional" 1873 SAA's 2 in civilian flavour and one in cavalry length, but never owned an Artillery or Bisley model.
Im currently still swinging towards the Bisley in chrome, I think it looks different as Frontierz said and I kinda know what to expect with the traditional SAA's and all of them bar the fast draw special i had, proved to be poor in performance or broke, where I have read that the bisleys are far better.
Kinda ironic really as in real life the 1873's were hardly accurate and the bisley proved to a popular choice for those wanting a quick shooter due to the hammer design.
I will end up getting two of the same pistol and i reckon 2 of these in a gun belt would like rather nice and interesting...but yet im still not sure and its annoying me!!!

Why bother, you'll only sell them on a couple of weeks after getting them just like you do with all your kit!
I've got to say though, after watching the magnificent seven last night, an all black cowboy loadout (Yul Brynner/Chris-style) is tempting for fun. So, western guns......

Seems the overall consensus is to go with the 1873 then

Re: To Bisley or not to Bisley (Tanaka SAA opinions)
Been chatting to a guy who knows his SAA's
the 1st gen models are newer and are non detachable cylinders, the bisley models also count as 1st gen, that also means the power is limited by japanese law, the detachable cylinder ver' are older.
so really it comes down to looks rather than potential performance which does make things a bit easier as i was swaying towards the bisley due to apparent better performance, turns out the guy was comparing his bisley to detachable cylinder ver 1873's ..go figure.
