  • Posting rifs abroad

I'm sure this has come up before. But couldn't find anything on search..

So, I'm looking at selling a rif to a lad in Portugal. Do I need to worry about anything or is it simply just a matter of putting it in the post, and it should arrive?

    Cheers guys,
    Phil

Not 100 percent sure but I think all guns in Portugal must be two toned.

      Re: Posting rifs abroad

I would do a little digging to see if there are restrictions in the country you are sending to. I would then make the buyer aware that it is at their own risk. Just to cover yourself I would make sure its signed for or tracked, so you can make sure it arrives. That way you are covered for the "customs destroyed" or "its not arrived I'm doing a charge back" claim.

It would be sent via UPS so fully tracked etc.
he owns an airsoft shop in Portugal so I'll talk to him about any laws he needs to abide by.

Basically though, is there anything I need to do when posting out of the country? If I post out will it get to te Portugal boarder no problems?

not sure how new this is, also sourced from wiki, but should at least give you some idea..

With the new revision of the "Guns and Ammunition Act" (Lei 17/2009), airsoft guns are no longer considered as such. Currently, the formal definition of an airsoft gun is Reprodução de Arma de fogo para praticas recreativas (in English: Recreational Firearm Replica). However, in order to be characterized as a Recreational Firearm Replica, their muzzle energy must not exceed 1,3 J (equivalent to a muzzle velocity of 375 fps with 0,2g BBs). The minimum age to purchase and use this replicas is 18 years old, however, a 16 years old may be allowed to buy and use them with a written parental consent. One must be a member of an APD - Associação de Promoção ao Desporto (in English: Sport Promotion Association).

Recognition of this APD is made by the IDP - Instituto do Desporto de Portugal (in English: Portuguese Sports Institute) as it represents the State. The Guns and Ammunition Act also states that after being approved by the IDP, the APD must be enlisted as such by the Portuguese law enforcement authority, the police called PSP - Polícia de Segurança Pública. There are several APDs for airsoft in Portugal, CAM - Clube de Airsoft da Maia,[18] ALA (FPA) Associação Lusitana de Airsoft,[19] APA - Associação Portuguesa de Airsoft,[20] ANA - Associação Nacional de Airsoft,[21] APMA - Associação Portuguesa de Milsim e Airsoft,[22] ADAPT - Associação Desportiva de Airsoft Português and AACP - Associação Airsoft Costa de Prata.[23] In addition, replicas have to be painted either in fluorescent yellow or fluorescent red and in compliance with the following criteria:

Long guns (≥ 60 cm)- 10 cm from the barrel tip and 100% of the stock.
Short guns (≤ 60 cm)- 5 cm from the barrel tip and 100% of the grip.

I've sent him a message saying that once its left the UK it will be his responsibility..

He said he's a shop owner so he should know what he's doing getting it into the country.

What I want to know is if I post it, will it get out of the UK without any problems, eg. Being held by customs *leaving the country* for any reason?

            Thanks,
            Phil

The airsoft shop that uses Jack Daniels' nickname for its name uses UPS for shipping abroad as there standard service.

Business account holders have different restrictions imposed on them.

                          Re: Posting rifs abroad

Most couriers will deliver RIFs but only for business account holders. I recently emailed ups about sending an airsoft gun to sweden via ups and this is the responce i received.

Prohibited Commodities are items that UPS will not ship. In the event that any of the prohibited articles inadvertently enters the UPS system, UPS will have no liability whatsoever for delay, loss, or damage to any such article.

Firearms include commodities such as pellet guns, rifles, replica guns, and cross bows, are prohibited within the UPS system.

Parcel force prohibit sending any rifs or even parts such as gun stocks unless you are a business customer so if they notice it is an rif they may choose not to deliver it and if anything goes wrong they defiantely will not compensate if they know it is an rif.

Royal mail do carry rifs so will have to compensate if there are problems up to £50 if sent 1st or 2nd and up to £500 for special delivery. The problem is they will only send parcels up to 610mm in length which is pretty useless for anything other than pistols and small smgs.
