Paint stripping
17 May, 2013, 22:31
Alright then guys. Does anyone know of a paint stripper that I can use to strip paint off plastic? One that's not going to melt, deform or soften the plastic?
There's two layers of paint on these parts, blue then black on top. I want to strip back to the bare black plastic.
Does nail varnish remover work? I read online that the acetyl in it doesn't work so well with certain types if plastic.. And the whole point I'm going to all this trouble rather than buy the parts new is these parts from a TM AK 102 cannot be bought seperately.
Thanks for any help,
Phil

Re: Paint stripping
Fairy power spray might do the trick - used it extensively on warhammer to strip paint.

Fairy power spray is the best bet, or warhammer paint stripper (expensive tho) and both will deform plastic if left on too long.

How long, is too long?
Cheers for the replies guys.
Also, where's the best place to do this- in the bath tub?

Couldnt tell you, only needs 15 mins is enough to soften the paint.
I left a tm 1911 Slide in power spray overnight and it fooked the surfaces

Re: Paint stripping
I used to leave models in it for up to six hours - did frost the surface if their bath was that long though!

Re: Paint stripping
Give Fairy power spray or Mr muscle a try I've used it on 2 polymer front ends to great effect (SRC tac ak and g36kv) wont eat into ur plastics either. What i do was to spray part all over place in a plastic carrier bag( one without holes in if you can find ones these days) tie it up, open and spray again while in bag oce or twice leave over night. Next day use a washing up dish brush/cleaner (thing that looks like a nail brush but with longer bristles) wash and brush off power spsary in warm soapy water

Neat Detol and a scrubbing brush.
Used to use that on my old Warhammer models.

Literally just went up to the coop to buy some fairy power spray and just applied it. Now for the 15 minute wait!
