What defines a 'Training Weapon' ?
19 May, 2013, 09:39
I don't quite get it. Any AEG manufacturer can call their MOSFET based AEG a 'training weapon' but the fact remains that you cannot perform Real steal Normal Safety Procedures (NSPs), the weapons working parts don't operate or behave like real steel. Despite that Systema, CTW and others call their rifles 'Training Weapons' - they fall well short of the basic real steel operating procedures
The only airsoft technology that is a genuine 'training weapon' is a GBB based weapon where you can step through NSPs and the weapon working parts behave like a real weapon. You can also do a river crossing with a GBB and operate in torrential rain with a GBB. With quite quality GBB running Co2, you can also operate at temps pretty close to 0 celcius.
Systema, Celcius and Airo just make higher (or extreme) quality weapons with clever MOSFETs- nothing more.
It seems to me that if you're looking for the highest quality, versatile, AEG then you have to look at the Systema class type weapons.but if you want a genuine training weapon the GBB is the only choice that I can see.
Drop'm out with a low cap and save the environment.

While you have a logical and valid point to which I can agree, the whole training weapon comes from the fact that Systema were the first airsoft weapon to be used by a military as a training weapon, I should imagine this decision was influenced by the superior build and functional quality at the time along with it's 1:1 real steel dimensions. Gbbr's are more fun though

Re: What defines a 'Training Weapon' ?
The term training weapon was 90% advertising and 10% factual based.
A hand full of US based military or law enforcement used it along with the close protection fraternity for some force on force training....... Then stopped as it offered nothing in terms of muscle memory training.
When the Systema Training Weapon was cloned, so was the name. Nowadays is simply denotes the type of internal setup.
Quick change cylinder
Epicyclic gearbox
Quick change ECU
Although there are slight differences, all of the TW family can easily be distinguished from a traditional AEG.
GBBRs are fare more suited to training as they offer the muscle memory actions that an operator would use in real life. It is an on going project I have been involved in for over year. We have intellectual property rights on a whole training package currently in trials with public sector workers as well as the private sector.

Now imagine Systema gave them to certain Mil/LE elements for free, and you're there
There was a large survey done a few years ago on a forum with a large US user base about what Mil and (mainly) LE agencies used Airsoft weapons for training and what brand. Turned out CA were actually the most popular for some reason

CA were or have at times or certain production runs fairly robust as well as being more affordable. I have also seen CA used by US rangers for CQB demos.
Imagine a System GBB with full high quality steel internals running a WE gas system. I'd be first in the queue :-)

This already exists. There are a number of brands to choose from but I too prefer WE. There are a number upgrade manufacturers of which RATech is the most common in the UK.
For the same price as a mid range TW you can get a pimped to shit GBBR with full upgrades.
