gun reveiws on buying sites
18 February, 2010, 10:49
Hi guys i dont know if anyone else feels the same about reviews on air soft retailers sites what ever site u go on everyone raves on how fantastic the gun is,however when you look on forums you find totally opposite some like the weapon others think their a pile of ***t,this makes buying difficult specially for people on tight budgets.because if you believed you are buying quality because you believe and trust the retailers reviews and it turns out not to be up to standard you have waisted quite a few quid.so to summaries are the reviews you read made up by the retailer or are they genuine and how would you recommend how to separate the wheat from the chaff

Re: gun reveiws on buying sites
Simply you use sites like this and the other airsoft sites, retailers generally wont have people posting shite about a product they are selling so only the "good" reviews get kept in.
Always research before you buy and take the "reviews" on retailer sites with a pinch of salt.

Re: gun reveiws on buying sites
A good review from a retailer might interest me, but really its just another ad.
I always check independant reviews before buying anything. I put most importance on peoples own experience.
I'm always a bit weary when reviews say, "It's great when you do x,y,z" and I keep an eye out for the reviews saying "great out of the box".
Its these reviews which put me off the AGM HK416 and tempt me to get a TM P90.

Re: gun reveiws on buying sites
Always cross reference different sources, like you say, forums are usually more critical, however the opinion is also a lot more personal. Where a retailers review is probably on the model as a whole/supplied by manufacturer, a forum goers views are on the particular unit they have, could be a good/bad one of a batch.
Consider the motives of both sides too, forum goers may wish to warn others of problems or to get 'internet points', retailers generally want to sell as much as possible whilst maintaining trust with their customers. You can usually spot supplied by manufacturer reviews as all the retailers have exactly the same ones, spelling mistakes and all.

I like it sometimes as atleast you get to know the features better but I would not use there review as a base to buy the gun.

I take any reviews with a pinch of salt tbh, especially with the younger airsofters, simply because they may have less experience, so any gun to them is the best thing since sliced bread, and you don't get many people saying they bought a lemon

Re: gun reveiws on buying sites
i learned the hard way as in, spending more than a few hundred on a gun to find out it pants and hardly ever works. it's seriously worth doing some research on some reviews on neutral sites like this one.

Re: gun reveiws on buying sites
tbh i brought my first gun after many years ics M cqb carbine i liked everything except the external mounted battery, and to be honest zeroone seemed the only company willing to two tone paint your full metal gun for free.also i had watched many different reviews my head was spinning with many variants of the same gun effectively the free paint job and upgrade were the swaying point for me to buy from zeroone my county i live in doesn't allow my local shop to paint any gun two tone.

County? Is there different legislature depending on which county you are in?
Maybe you meant country but then i'm not sure you'd order 2 tone from Z1?
Perhaps the local shop didn't want to deface the gun with god awful day glo colours

This is considered a neutral site?
I guess the definition of neutral has changed somewhat.
Its Zero Ones site, its a retailers site. How can that be in any way neutral?
A great retailer for sure! But not in any way shape or form a neutral site.

I brought a lemon once, but it had a lousy range and a terrible ROF so I used it for my pancakes
Seriously though, the forums are a good place to get semi impartial advice, ( people will tend to recommend what they have ). But if you look through the multiple of "bestest" post you will see a pattern, lots of users recommend JG as starter guns, TM if you want a solid weapon and don't mind plastic and low FPS etc.
find what you are intrested in on the shop site, then search the forums.

In relation to airsoft kit reviews though (as that what this topic is about) then they're neutral

I am not aware of the forum rule, preventing the reveiw and discussion of makes of gear and guns.

Where did I say there was such a rule?
My point was this is not a neutral forum in as much as its a forum by Zero One.
Meh, my intent was to point out neutral is neutral and not shades of.
Nothing more.
