  • The Charging Lipos Game - Time to Eat My Hat

    So, I've been airsofting for a good 18 months now, and for all that time I've used Lipos. I have charged them with my trusty little cheapo charger identical to this one:

    For the last 18 months I have told people to get one of these chargers. After all, they worked for me didnt they? Why bother getting an expensive one? Well it started reporting a problem with one of my batteries today, so I broke out the multi-meter to give the cell voltages a measure.

    Both of these batteries are 7.4V 1450mAh 20C lipos.

    Battery one (still works like a beast in my guns):
    Total = 10.46V, C1 = 5.46V, C2 = 5.00V

    Battery two (dead, completely dead - partially my fault for not charging it whilst it was empty for a long time):
    Total = 6.93V, C1 = 1.35V, C2 = 5.58V

    Go ******* figure that one out. I take back anything I ever said that was good about cheap 'balance' chargers. Time to get a decent charger I'm thinking Imax B6 or Accucel 6 - whilst I am indeed googling the testicles off this anyone on here's input would be appreciated

    Can't go wrong with an Imax.
    Well for me its worked.

    Just makesure you get one from a good retailer, plenty of fakes on the bay.

      Imax or the Acucell 6.
      I've got the Accucel myself, great bit of kit. Used it on the car the other day when that was dead.

        IMAX B6 does it for me, make sure you get a genuine one though plenty of copies about.

          As above, the IMAX B6 is a fantastic charger. Balance charging the cells every 6th charge certainly helps keep them in good nick.
          I've been using lipos for about 4 years now as I also race rc cars and the IMAX B6 has never let me down. (touchwood)

              forgive me for being dense but the charger said one battery is dead and it is ? when a lipo goes too low on voltage it will no longer accept a charge and the charger will report a fault and not charge it, still no fault .are you saying the good battery was registering as faulty on the charger ? or the dead one.

                The dead Lipo is dead, that's not my issue.

                The issue is with the over voltage charging being exhibited by the charger

                  I fly RC planes as well as playing airsoft, the imax b6 is OK, but it's a bit basic for what I need. It works well enough for airsoft but just won't cut it with better Lipo packs. This is my charger....

                    I considered a B6 but read a few stories stating the balancer wasn't always that great so went for the Accucel-6 and I can't fault it. I bought it without a power supply, but I have an old IBM laptop PSU that works fine with it

                          Second the Accucel, so simple, has programmable failsafes, runs in the car and on mains... Also has intelligent charging programs for all batteries (inc LiFe)- balance, storage, discharge/recharge cycles. And its cheeeaaaap!

                          EDIT: Happyal, that looks like a games console from the late eighties... Duck hunt anyone?
