Gluing boot sole
3 September, 2013, 15:43
How do chaps and chapettes,
Bought some 'grade 1' Lowa boots surplus... arrived and the front of the sole has come away from the shoe.
For the £35 I paid, I don't feel it's worth contesting this as they *are* surplus, even though they were listed as Grade 1... the return postage probably ain't worth it (is it?)...
So the question is, what do I do to fix 'em!?
Quick google came back to buy 'shoe goo', rubber cement, or polyurethane glue, screw the sole back in, take 'em to my local cobblers etc etc.
Have any of you had to do it? What should I do?
Thanks,
Smudge

Re: Gluing boot sole
I think they milk the gorillas, which is extremely hazardous and why the glue's so expensive.
OP, take it to a cobbler. They have weapons-grade adhesives that us lowly consumers don't have ready access to, plus they understand how the boot was built in the first place. You're buying a lot of specialised knowledge and experience for not a lot of money when you go to a cobbler.

I tend to agree with puresilver on this.
If you screw it up, its hard to fix and there is no comeback.
section 24 of the 1968 Act
Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

Re: Gluing boot sole
kleb fest is the stuff cobblers use, i used it on a pair of 1943 ammo boots leather to leather and it works perfectly, used it on a modern pair leather to rubber and again it worked a treat. he only paid £35 for the boots ,cobblers will want £15 at least, if the gets the glue he can mend as many pairs as he likes.you have to follow the instructions and leave 48 hours to cure, that's where most people go wrong.

Re: Gluing boot sole
Also, it's not only the glue, but the spread and the method of how the pressure is applied.
I'd take it to a cobbler as well.
