Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if the standard issue British army gas mask GSR is safe for airsoft use?

Probably not, you'll either suffocate or overheat.

You have to change the lens' out. Use the search function there's a few topics on it here.

I'm pretty sure the new GSR has a ballistic rating. Whether or not it's sufficient for airsoft I don't know.

You'll want to take out the filters too for breathing's sake.

Re: British Army Gas Mask GSR Ballistic rating
I think everyone is talking about the old S10.
The OP is asking about the new GSR. Of which you can neither remove the lense, or the filters. With no filters on, you won't be able to breathe at all due to the one way valves.

Isn't the new GSR on the restricted kit list tho?

Yes, very much so.
Not even been fully rolled out yet.
section 24 of the 1968 Act
Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

Re: British Army Gas Mask GSR Ballistic rating
A friend of a friend's brother's uncle's next door neighbour's sister in law's boyfriend's son's friend of mine may or may not have one of these. They do look like they have fairly thick polycarb lenses, however they have NO markings on the lense or frame to state if they confor to any ballistic rating or not Only way to find out would be to shoot it and see what happens, however said person isnt willing to risk breaking theirs by shooting it!
Unless anyone happens to know a CBRN instructor or quartermaster who knows about them in more detail and can give a definate answer?
Also theyre VERY comfy compared to the S10, very easy to breath in great airflow and very little fogging. Dual cannister design makes it a bit hard to get your cheek flat on a rifle though, but you can rotate them out of the way or even remove one on your shooting side.

Re: British Army Gas Mask GSR Ballistic rating
Restricted items are things that are not supposed to be sold to the public, these are one of those items as they are so new.
It is also one of those things that when a member of the public has one, it has genuinely taken away from a member in the forces.
I know a great many guys still waiting for them now.

Re: British Army Gas Mask GSR Ballistic rating
They are a massive step in the right direction compared to the S10.
I can't comment on Official Ballistic rating, but I have ran square into a tree wearing mine (Purely accidental... silly, silly section comp) and she survived absolutely fine.
Take that as you will.
...and I would take it as "Wow, what kind of idiot manages to run into a tree?!", in which case, you would be correct in calling me an idiot!

Re: British Army Gas Mask GSR Ballistic rating
I have seen some supposedly ballistic rated replacement lenses for the S10 on Ebay, for the filter you can puck up a cheap soviet GP-5 gas mask, crack open the filter and empty out the charcoal, makes it a lot easier and safer to breath if you still want the realism of having a filter (the soviet gas masks are the same threading as most of the NATO ones).
