Re: British Army Gas Mask GSR Ballistic rating
I have reported several of these recently on FleaBay as "Stolen" but was ignored, I know there is a branch of the Military Police that are always on the look out for stolen Kit being sold but don't know the contact details.

Being issued in DDPM haversacks? No idea where you are but thats not the case here. The new MTP Haversacks are quite good actually, even if the spare Filters are a bit of a squeeze.
All the ones I've seen issued in pompey are in DDPM haversacks.

Re: British Army Gas Mask GSR Ballistic rating
I was having a play with one of these a few months back at my old unit and the guys aren't very impressed with them at all. They've been instructed that they have to keep them in the bulky haversack which has a solid foam lining and is pretty big. Especially when putting it into your already packed out Bergen. They've also been warned that they're fragile and have to report any drops as they need to be re-inspected! Seems to me like a greasy design ergonomically but as is always the case with British kit, practicality gets thrown out the window!

You have to keep the old s10 in its haversack too, the gsr haversack isn't much bigger than the s10 one tbh. Again, the s10 is fragile too. The gsr is a massive improvement over the s10, as per usual squaddies enjoy a whinge about any new kit, take with a pinch of salt. I bet if you made them choose between the gsr and s10 in a cbrn situation, every one would go for the gsr without even stopping to think.
Buy my stuff!

Well as I said. The GSR is ergonomically brilliant. I agree it is a much better design. But from what I've been told by Infantry guys using it, it is a pain in the arse. Yes the S10 has to be kept in the haversack too but the S10 haversack doesn't have solid foam inserts so it can be compressed. Also I was never once told that if I dropped my S10 it had to go back for inspection, unless there was clear damage. Also the cannosters on the GSR are stored in the bottom of the new haversack aren't they? So dropping it in that would cause damage to the new cannisters. At least with the S10 you could squash it into the Bergen. The guys I know have been told they need to attach it to the outside of the Bergen to prevent it being squashed under the lid!! Again as I said it is a brilliant bit of kit but doesn't seem to be very practically thought out. Reminds me of when they issued Kestrel body armour to us in Iraq. Was great at protecting from blasts but the fact that the sleeves weren't adjustable meant the for guys like my with larger than average biceps it meant that we couldn't shoulder our weapon properly, use our SUSAT and in my case even get to your ammo pouch!! It seems with list MOD stuff they design a top notch product, but they never check it for comfort or in this case the practicality of storing it in your Bergen.
Haha, I've just read my original comment and seen that my iphone has changed "it seems great ergonomically" into "greasy ergonomically"!! I meant great!! Lol
