Digital vernier caliper is a useful piece of kit. Great for finding screw thread sizes and hole pitches.
You can pick these up for under a tenner.

Re: Best smithing tool
First thing - nice long cross-head screwdriver, perfect for those grip screws, magnetic helps enormously when putting the screws back.
I keep saying I'll get myself a small but powerful motorized screwdriver for those 9 gearbox screws, nothing more tedious than taking apart the gearbox for the 10th time in the space of a couple of hours.

Pillow case !
The best for when opening up a gearbox / gun when you know everything is going to come flying out at different angles and be lost till the Hoover starts making funny rattling noises .

You can magnetise most of your favourite tools if required. Get a strong magnet and stick to tool for about 24 hours. You will find your tool now magnetised.

My precision hand files.
Not as harsh as a dremel and makes things so much simpler!

Re: Best smithing tool
Agree with hand files, had a Marui M3 in bits and while it was removed all the tooling marks before spraying. Great for attention to detail.
Not a job for the dremmel.

Plumbers wrench. The only thing big enough to loosen my hand tightened delta rings.

Re: Best smithing tool
What are the manufacturers doing with delta rings?
Are they using an armourers wrench with a 10' extension bar just to make sure it doesn't come loose!

Does feel like that sometimes. G&P, i'm particularly looking at you! Mind you, not a single bloody Airsoft manufacturer actually installs 'em properly anyway....

I hope they are tools and not attached to weavers.
If they are, send a picture!
