How to determine the best weight of BB to use?
3 December, 2013, 15:38
Hi all, as the topic title says, how do you work out which weight BB will be the best for different pistols and rifles etc? I have been using .3g ones for a while now and they perform well, but would say, a .4g BB give better range?
I have a hi-capa thats been pretty much (internally) completely upgraded. 6.01mm tightbore barrel, nine ball hop rubber, airsoft surgeon BBU, reinforced LN, and a few other internal parts that I cant remember and arent really that important lol. Its also running on co2 at the minute and green gas in the summer.
So, for my pistol thats running on co2, which weight BB would be the best to use? Stick with .3s or maybe go for .4s? Whats your experience with different weight BBs?

if .3's are working fine, then why change? .4's will probably give you a better accuracy but over a shorter distance .
one thing you havent clarified, for paper punching or people punching?
indoor target etc id go with a heavy weight, but outdorrs at a skirmish id stick to a mid weight/best of both worlds weight, like the .3's your already running.
i run .28's in everything and it seems to give the best overall results taking wind, range and accuracy into account.

Simple, trial and error!
What works better for someone, might not work for you, because there are so many variables. The gun and its internal components for example are a huge contributing factor, and not forgetting personal preference. Some people prefer as flat a trajectory as possible, where as others prefer that little bit of lift toward the end of the flight.

I forgot about that! Its just used for target practice in the garden mate. Thanks for the replies, Ive got a fair few .3s so I think Ill experiment with some .4s and see what the difference is.

I would say go .3 if you need the range over the hitting power.
If you are plinking at targets indoors and not much else even a .25 is fine but when outdoors I would say to stick to the .3s for the best balance.
However it can also depend on the gun along with many other things. Silly things that you wouldn't even consider like the actual speed of the wind in relation to you and all that.
Personally I would just say stick with what works and get more .3s

I use .25's in my guns as a standard if im indoors. They dont get affected by wind and give a very decent range and consistency.
Outside i use .28's in my MP7 and .3's in my pistols.
