Has the interest in PTW/CTW died down? Or does airsoft just have phases
13 February, 2014, 11:29
I have noticed the decrease in threads about the Systema, celcius ect training weapons.
2012/13 you couldn't move on here for the amount of threads about CTW's and when i first joined the forum and for a good while after all as i was reading about is how good PTW'S are and the obvious arguments about them being stupid prices( Not what this thread is about)
I do however keep seeing threads on TM's recoil series, have these now become the new "training" weapon?
So what do you all think, is airsoft just a series of fads and crazes that die off and come back around again?

Peaks and troughs of interest as new products come out or older products are spotlighted/re-released. Give it another year and it will all be "am ptw bestest".

CTW's are a bit 'yesterday's news' now, and as you say, the TM Recoil Series seems to be all the rage, and as they're more affordable than a new PTW, more people have access to them, so more talk about them.

As Abbadon says, as soon as something very popular is released the number of threads increase.
Notice how many we pistol threads asking about cool down pop up in winter?
Or more threads selling heavy guns / jackets pop up in summer?

just saying, no professionals use(d) PTWs for training.
Travis Haley used (dunno if he still does) TM Recoils.
-TM Recoil M16 Custom- -TM 1911 MEU- -Tanaka SAA- -TM HK45- -JG G36k Ris-
-ECHO1 SA58 OSW- -A&K Masada- -VFC FNX-45- -TM Recoil AKs-74u-

Argh don't want to get into this argument, but actually some Mil/LE elements DID use PTWs. However, that's probably down to the fact Systema actually gave them away, probably as a good marketing ploy

The market moves on. When I first poked around airsoft forums (long before I started playing) I can remember there was lots of buzz about the ICS split gearbox. now you don't hear that much about it.
That's not to say it doesn't have it's fans, just that other products have gained traction (possibly including the TW family)
Not actually a builder

Yeah, I remember the big thing around the ICS split gearbox. I remember running a poll on here years ago to see how many people actually used the feature, because ICS owners always harped on about how it was so useful to change FPS. I forget the results, but it was hardly anyone.

Given that in the UK the actual professional's use Gas guns. These 'training weapons' are nothing more than fancy AEG's now.

They always were! It was clever marketing by Systema at the time.

The recession is also a cause with less people willing to spend 1000 pound +
Also the fact that technology has caught up with them . You don't need to spend 1000 pounds nowadays to get an Airsoft gun that can match / beat a ptw / ctw for reliability/ range / trigger response / empty mag sensing .
. Think the bubble finally burst for these overpriced / overhyped guns .

It would be interesting to know how many Systema are selling compared with say 3 years ago

Think there's reasonable interest someone I know bought 1, I'm about to buy one, they're selling out on HK sites.
There's been quite a few on here recently.
They just brought out the NA version, if they made more than just M4/MP5 it would be more interesting.

I know there's been a few on here, but I'm talking about new sales. Just wondering if they had dropped off significantly or not. Suppose it's something we may never know
