Vfc 417 gbbr
14 September, 2014, 11:00
So I picked up my new rifle the other day, as far as I am aware there are only currently 5 in the UK (unless imported)
Out of the box I cleaned out the factory grease and relubed it and polished the bolt and hammer
Now the UK models come a brass restrictor in the nozzle to bring the power down to 290fps, without it the 417 shoots at 410fps
I drilled the brass restrictor out with a 2.45mm drill bit
and shaved a few mm off this part of the floating valve off
and got it to just 326fps which for UK users is perfect and took about 20 min to do

Looks like the bottom of the nozzle assembly has started to deform already.

Re: Vfc 417 gbbr
Have to admit, I'm far more impressed with the VFC HK417 I took apart last week compared to their HK416's i've worked on in the past. Some small, but significant improvements. No more annoying E clip holding the nozzle assembly spring in place, a better Hop-up unit design, and a FCG that's not made of cheese either.

Yeah I was hesitant to get one but I'd tested one a ton before I got it

Not that bad on an AEG, on a GBBR it's surviving so far!

Re: Vfc 417 gbbr
I'm really interested in getting one of these in the new year. First impressions, what do you think? Worth getting? Especially since I've already got the AEG version.
The only stupid question is one that was never asked.

Have you had a GBBR before? The mods I did definitely helped out of the box

Re: Vfc 417 gbbr
You'd have more firepower in a pistol than the 417. If you could live with it's limited capacity, it's a solid rifle, with beautiful externals and an excellent shooting experience.
I'd suggest using decent bbs coupled with upgraded hop bucking for better consistency. I run mine as a DMR.

I've not had a GBBR before and I know they can be a bit more temperamental than an AEG and require more maintenance. I've got a couple of AEG's and I was looking at a GBBR or EBB for my next gun. The idea of a gas 417 is great. But, I'm trying to find out if in reality it's worth it. Is it good to go out of the box, or will it need work doing?

Re: Vfc 417 gbbr
It's early days yet as it's still very new to the market, however I haven't changed mine at all internal wise and I've gone 2000 rounds or so through the system with no issues yet.
Had some bbs chewed up when cycling but that's down to using poor ammo, testing different brand heavy bbs. Some aren't very hard.
