shipping from HK retailer costing more than item!
4 May, 2010, 17:06
I ordered a pantac HPC last week from r.....f , 47 quid i thought not bad ive got the money so why not ... then i saw the shipping fee once i had ordered it 25 quid i thought very steep bit of a joke tbh but ok ill pay it as no where else had the item in stock ... any way i ordered on last tuesday , still not arrived today , so i looked my tracking number , held in local depot . wondered what was wrong so rang them up to find out i had been hit by another 25 quid shipping charge that parcelfarce wouldnt release the item untill said ammount was payed... i find the shipping charges pretty extortionate and i definatly wont be ordering from hong kong again now. never mind parcel farce atleast fedex wouldnt hit me with another charge after reaching the local area...
anyone else been hit with extortionate and stupid charges like this and you think there would be a way of getting any money back ..?

nope, its called VAT and any import is suject to it if over a certain value (£13 iirc?)
avoiding it is tax evasion and not a good idea.
fedex would hit and so whold tnt as well, it not the carrier its H&M customs and revenue
still all a pain in the butt tho
back in the game after 12 months away!

Re: shipping from HK retailer costing more than item!
The £24 is a customs charge not normally Parcel force, has happend to me loads of times when buying kit from abroad. its complete luck of the draw if they pick it up or not. but there is not choice but to pay it if you want your item.
Good luck if your going to dispute it tho.

well the thing with HK is when the pound is strong against the dollar you can get things cheaper including shipping. but as now the pound is quite weak so things are more or less on par.

Re: shipping from HK retailer costing more than item!
Dont spend more than £36 and the package will be marked (normally) as a gift by the seller. A gift under £36 will 95% of the time go straight through with out a second look. I have only had one parcel stopped in four years. If you spend more than that the label on the package will marked differently and will be pulled by the tax trolls.
If you want to get a good deal from HK you need to buy stuff that even after postage and the possability of charges will still beat the UK price! And that aint easy.
Plus the exchange rate at the moment is about $1.49 to the £1.

Re: shipping from HK retailer costing more than item!
everything to the UK will get charged, its just parcelfarce are cheaky and charge you about £14 to take the money from you, which is silly, TNT charge much less, its not too bad if youve got a big delivery but on a cheaper item it does take the pee a bit

Not true, Parcel Force add a 'handling fee', usually £13.50 IIRC
