Gun Bluing kits - Has anybody tried these?
6 May, 2010, 11:04
I want to restore a G&P M4 receiver from a flat black to a nice gun blue.
I have seen those gun bluing solutions like Birchwood Casey perma blue and Abbey blue gun gel on airgun forums. Would they work with airsoft components as it is a cheaper and easier way rather than electrochemical method.

I've been tempted by these for my air rifle which has a few patches where the blue has scratched off but they generally get bad reviews,

They would not blue an airsoft reciever because it is an aluminium/zinc based alloy. It only blues steel/iron and it's alloys.
Hope this helps

true story.
I did it to an air rifle many years back - works ok but several coats are required to make it look decent.

I have used gun blue cream on some of my AKs but they all have steel bodies.
As said before it will not work on armalite alloy bodies

There are specific treatments for Aluminium out there, but they tend to be black, as opposed to blue, and i've not tried any personally.
