Re: Realistic or unrealistic 2nd hand pricings.

Heh seen that TM P90 £515! It's like he's just taken the new price of a TM P90 and added on the price of everything he's done to it.

Considering I bought one with a tightbore and an upgraded motor AND a new hop up unit and rubber and box mag adapter for £140 and with two batts he's dreaming.

Personally i think 30% off the original price REGARDLESS of brand is the way to go.

I was tempted with UK price but with the amount of importing that goes on it may not cost UK prices.

It's the same story with motorbikes that have had bling added (some of it highly functional, other stuff just looks nice), the seller thinks it increases value. It doesn't, all it does is make the item more desirable but at the same price as stock. In other words, if I have a stock TM 1911 and a nicely customised one, they'll both go up for £90 (or whatever) but the custom one will sell quicker. That's a broad generalisation of course but reasonably valid.

Bottom line is anyone can put up anything for any price but the market (gullible or otherwise) will dictate the result.

          Thread cleaned!

I don't mind this thread running, but if we're going to use it for personal attacks and directly linking to peoples' sales, then those that do will be taking some time out...

Re: Realistic or unrealistic 2nd hand pricings.

              I like the -30% rule.

The thing is, I'm looking at some of the custom stuff, I'd really love to get myself an entry level sniper rifle that's doing around 450fps... so i'm scanning over a lot of the posts and trying to trend the good ones.

But as rightfully said, custom stuff doesn't necessarily add to the value of the weapon because there's no promise the work done is up to par. It could be a complete botch job hence the sale!

Another thing that really irks me is people who bump their own sales thread to inform us all that the item is sold.

                    USE THE "SOLD" BUTTON!!!!

Many times I've seen a thread I've been watching replied to by the original poster and thought to myself "Oh I wonder if that's a generic bump or another price drop that might just persuade me into buyi...oh no wait he's sold it...".

I mean, it actually takes more effort to post a "sold" reply to your own thread than just marking it as sold, so do that!!

you'd be surprised (or maybe not!) the number of tiimes people still enquire about items that have been sold and only marked using the 'SOLD' button. Maybe they just can't see the little padlock on tapatalk. I often write Sold then close the thread with the sold button. Seems to have stopped the unnecessary replies. But we all have our own irks don't we! :-)

Doesn't a 'Sold' thread also have line through the topic title?

Definitely one for rage against the answermachine

Something else I'm finding quite common is the number of people who don't bother responding to a query because, I presume, they feel insulted they haven't immediately been offered the asking price or too many details are being requested. Then, when nobody buys their gun, they suddenly become very pally and want to know (at which point I tell them I'm no longer interested).

Politeness costs nothing. Nor does a simple thank you when you've been sent something free ( Mr Croydon Ewok).

Re: Realistic or unrealistic 2nd hand pricings.

I have always used 30 - 40 % as a base price and then adjusted up or down based on condition and rarity..... And to a certain point the desperation of the other party. This is essentially supply and demand after all.

When selling I try to ensure all my stuff can be viewed as value for money. I am selling it because it no longer suits my needs. I know I am not going to retire on the proceeds of the sale.

I like swaps too. People tend to get a better deal out of me on swaps based on the fact I get what I want without the aggro.

Airsoft is a money pit. Buying, selling and trading second hand gear even more so. The sooner people realise that the more realistic prices will become.

As a side note, there is a joker on a well known auction site trying to sell a Warrior DCS plate carrier. The cost and postage make it approximately £60 MORE EXPENSIVE than you can buy if for brand new, delivered.
Away from UK until June / July. Happy to still buy but sales will be harder due to not being home.

Re: Realistic or unrealistic 2nd hand pricings.

Generally, I'll sell things for no more than 65% of its original combined value, and then round it down to the nearest £10 - then automatically cover the postage within that cost, not make people pay extra, unless of course the postage is going to be astronomical for weight/size reasons.

Another thing that really gets my rag - If you use paypal for the transaction, you are agreeing to all of their T&C's, which includes absorbing the fee costs into your set price. Having Price + Paypal Fees is douchebaggery of the highest order, and very much against their rules, and if it comes to a Paypal claim the buyer will always be ruled in favour when it comes to light - because the seller broke the rules. Paypal are extremely anal about rules.
