  • Bring Back The VCRA Sticky!

After the Young Players thread got locked, it seems that so many Airsofters don't understand how the VCRA affects them, so please can't we have the VCRA sticky back? I know dope put up some really good info. Even better would be a VCRA section where people can ask questions. For example, here's what I've just been told:

There was no age limit before the act as far as I know... Airsoft guns were classed as toys, and were freely purchasible... Now it is law that under 18s may not buy, there is no law against owning. (YET)

Actually, I believe you had to be 16 to purchase one pre VCRA?

That sounds about right.... but it certainly wasnt 18 and enforced... as there were many under 18 players..,. Methinks its more a symptom of unenforced laws, and airsoft being out of the spotlight. i remember there being a discussion in the drafting of the exemption for that purpose... unfortunate, but lesser of two evils.

I think perhaps a goo start would be to post up some nice doccuments with facts before we start to discuss things... its generally a god starting point.

And judging by another topic here recently, we need the firearms law too..

Hoefully they still have the old one backed up somewhere on here...it would be a shame to have to make it again.
I just read the thread mentioned by you fizzy, and it actually got me annoyed, with all the wild claims being thrown about.

I will give the really old threads a search to see if I can find and bump it up.

See, wrong again. The VCRA of 1968 refers to firearms, not airsoft weapons. The 2007 amendment was to include air weapons and airsoft RIFs\IFs

Steve, where's the UKARA sticky, I'm having a blond moment and can't find it?

Why, it's not getting out of hand? There seems to be a lot of misinformation which affects all of us, so it's in our best interests to know how it affects us.

Re: Bring Back The VCRA Sticky!

God, who cares? Im fed up to the back teeth of all this VCRA. DOES IT REALLY MATTER what happened in the past? NO...
                    What matters now is this:

TO BUY AN AIRSOFT GUN THAT IS NOT TWO TONE, YOU MUST BE REGISTERED AND OVER 18. YOU CAN BUY A TWO TONE GUN IF YOUR OVER 18. TO GET REGISTERED, PLAY 3 GAMES AT ONE SITE. ANY GUNS YOU OWNED BEFORE THE VCRA YOU CAN KEEP, AND YOU CANNOT PAINT A TWO TONE GUN UNLESS REGISTERED.

Simple ladies and gents. Now can we all stop throwing what we THINK is right around the place, because it confuses people. What was in the past is in the past. Does it really matter what the age limit was BEFORE the ban, because i think its arguing for arguments sake.

There are plenty of sites that explain about the VCRA, use google ffs. ZeroIn isnt the be all and end all of airsoft forums and sites.

See, you're right about one thing, we should all stop throwing around what we THINK is right, including yourself, because you do NOT have to be registered to buy a RIF! You only have to be able to prove you're a regular skirmisher.

Re: Bring Back The VCRA Sticky!

True good point Fizzy. But saying that, its much much easier to be registered, so i always say just be registered. Stops confusion. And i was in a bit of a rage as i typed.

Sure, being registered does seem the easiest way, but it isn't the only way. I know some airsofters who refuse to be registered, and they keep airsoft diaries, which they have signed by the site when they skirmish.

However those who are 16+ can own a two tone, but only if its been bought for them or given as a gift.

I choose not to be registered. I know one retailer personally, and he knows i skirmish... as we have skirmished alongside one another... thats good enough proof in the eyes of the law...

Having your face in AI doesnt hurt either as proof hehe
