  • Operation Insight: Armed Forces Day 2010

I've been given the go-ahead from the event's boss to advertise this, if the Z1 staff don't like it then by all means remove this thread... (Well actually, PLEASE DON'T).... Remember that this is for CHARITY and we're not going to benefit in any way.

This is a first time event, but from 2010, we'll be doing this every year...

For a quick presentation on the event, visit http://www.deltateam3.co.uk/special_events.html.

    Information

Armed Forces Day (AFD), to honour our Service personnel, past, present and future, will be held on Saturday 26 June 2010. Events to mark the day may also be held a week either side. AFD is also designed to recognise the contribution made by the wider Armed Forces community, which includes veterans, families and cadets. The theme is ‘Show Your Support’ and members of the public are being encouraged to take part in events and homecoming parades. The first AFD was held in 2009 and built on the success of the former Veterans Day. The aim of Armed Forces Day (AFD) is to increase public support and appreciation of all those who serve and have served in HM Armed Forces. AFD has built on the success of previous Veterans Days. It is an opportunity for the nation to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community (serving regular and reserve), including Service families, cadets, veterans.

    The intent is as follows;
    1. Create an annual event to mark AFD and raise money for relevant, worthwhile causes.
    2. Raise awareness and respect for the men and women of our armed forces, past present and future.
    3. Provide a unique ‘mil-sim’ for the airsoft community, our very own ‘Cambrian Patrol’.

Op Insight was originally planned for AFD 2011 however due to recent developments, a test group will now proceed on 03.07.10 commencing 0800hrs. The intent is to provide members of the British public with an alternative military themed tribute to mark A.F.D. whilst raising support for charities dedicated to improving the lives of those directly involved in the conflict and their families. Op Insight is a simulated military exercise which hopes to raise awareness and support for the daily routine and sacrifices made by our armed forces. The experience will help to bring our armed forces front and centre to the minds of those attending the 24hr event.

Cost = £75 (although note, this money is used for the equipment we provide for you; a large percentage will be going to the charities).

    Venue

For 2011, we will have the luxury of choosing – for this year, time is pressing.
Alan - the boss of Delta Team 3 Airsoft North (Merseyside) has said that Delta’s site (based in Skelmersdale) is available as back up if necessary.

We'll update you regarding what Venue is going to be used, however it's likely that it'll be Ex-mod land.

    Charity Beneficiaries

We will be contacting Afghan Heroes & The Ghurkha Welfare Trust ‘officially’ to promote our event.

    Venue Timings

Friday 2nd July will be site preparation day with no admittance for non-event staff until after 1800hrs.

Event registration will commence from 0800hrs Saturday July 3rd.

End Exercise will be called at 1000hrs Sunday July 4th.

    FINAL OBJECTIVE

A debrief will take place after the final marks have been gathered for the event. A series of awards will be made to individuals who have demonstrated skills, spirit and endurance over the course of the exercise. Thanks will be given to all those involved, then the flag will be lowered and two minutes silence observed.
