Purchase vs FPS..
9 August, 2010, 12:53
Is the fps a factor when buying an weapon for people?
Out of all the weapons I've bought off of here only 1 has actually been close to it's apparent fps measurement..and they are always lower than advertised....
What sort of margin is acceptable before it becomes and issue?
Not my last transaction
BTW
...I'm talking suggested and actual with a difference of 45 fps, which is one I received..is this the norm',poetic license perhaps.
I chrono buying when received and before selling,I suppose different chrono's can give different readings,I just wondered what the acceptable margin(exaggeration) of error.

Re: Purchase vs FPS..
What was it advertised at, and what does it chrono at?
It seems to me, most people on here don't chrono their guns and have no idea what they're actually firing at. The threads we see on the Coke can and poor mans chrono prove that. I also think they go from the website's blurb. One was advertised here recently firing 330-360fps (probably because that's what the retailer's website says) Well, if it's got a varience of 30fps there's something wrong with it IMO

Re: Purchase vs FPS..
unless they take a photo of the chrono reading youve no real evidence of the fps. You just have to take what the seller says with a pinch of salt. Or demand a photo or video. Personally i photo and video mine working before sale, it covers you and the buyer. And it speeds up the sale.

Re: Purchase vs FPS..
I'v seen that cheapr guns, generally have much higher FPS variances... as if you were to Chrono a Systema ptw, you may get a varience of 1fps, though Chrono a Well D95 (MY FIRST EVER GUN WOOOT GO LPEG!) it will vary by over 30fps!... though allot of retailers for very very low end guns, where most of their potential cusotmers only look at fps, seem to add 30 on for all their guns, and half the time chrono them with .12s!
When the 404 error message gets a 404 error message, you know it's bad...

Re: Purchase vs FPS..
I've never seen fps questioned in a sales thread so I wondered if there was any recourse if the sellers exaggeration was wildy "optimistic"..
What I'm saying is if the buyer quoted say 330 and it's actual was 280 surely you could ask for satisfaction via a refund or other mutual agreement?
BTW I have no intention of any course of action but I just wondered if everyone accepted it or what else they did?
And I do chrono before I mess about with them...
Thanks.

Some? If I had a £1 for everytime I've seen people slate TM (for example) because it's only 280fps and they can buy a JG that's 370fps, I'd buy myself a SOPMOD :p
OP, I'd definitely speak to the guy you bought it off. Either he lied about the FPS, or there's an issue with the gun.

:D..but if 2 identical weapons were for sale and the fps differed by 30 fps which would people opt for?

No,I'm well happy with the gun and I would've bought it anyway that's why I haven't got a real issue,as I said just wondering what is and is not acceptable...:D
I will ask the seller out of curiosity anyway.

Can't even begin to explain how much I agree.
If a gun comes to you and you've been told it's firing at a different FPS, (within reason) you're perfectly fine to ask the seller for a refund. But unless the margin is beyond 40-50fps it shouldn't really bother you, you won't notice a difference in performance anyway. However some people put the manufacturer's claim and (if they've told you that's what it is), you can't really hold them to it.
To be honest I'd much rather something comes out at a slightly lower FPS as oppose to being over what was advertised and over site limits. Because then I have to get the clippers out or buy a new spring. But that's just me.

have to disagree with you fizzy - no all that many people have a chrono and if the seller gave an estimate then it is no big deal.
on the other hand if he said "this gun fires at bla bla bla as i just tested it with my chrono" - then you have an issue.
op - if I chrono'd a new gun and it was 100fps below what I thought then that would be an issue. - 50fps isnt a big deal imo.

Which ever one was in best condition, going on the fact that if it has been well looked after on the outside. There is a good chance it has been well looked afer inside too.
If it was a gun I wanted fps wouldn't be a consideration. Chrono's are fairly cheep to buy and you would be daft to replace a spring and or other parts for new then expecting it to be fine for skirmishing.
Turn up on the day and you are 20fps over the top limit, so it is either dismantle the gun and spend an hour or so buggering about clipping the spring, buying another spring, or hire for the day. Sod that. £50 for a fairly decent chrono suddenly doesn't seem to expensive does it?
Just to add that it is a complete waste of time estimating fps....If you are going to do that it's like saying ''it was ok last time I used it.'' Pollox.

Thing is, we don't know it was an estimate. Did the thread say 'Estimated 330fps' or simply 'FPS: 330' ?
If you're going to guestimate, you should at least say so. Simply putting a figure, to me, suggests that's what the FPS is, give or take

Aye - I agree mate. was just saying.
boils down to honesty in the sales - I think most deals I have done in the past have neglected to mention the odd issue.
if you don't know the fps - you should indeed say so.
with regards to the two identical guns for sale - but with different fps: for me the fps wouldn't come into it - t would be a case of which is the better deal - or which seller is more willing to negotiate.
