  • Royal Mail recorded delivery.

    Hi guys,

Mum has bought a gun of this forum for me and the seller has said he posted it 1st recorded delivery on Saturday and it still hasn't arrived and I am getting a bit anxious now as it was a lot of money. How long can first class recorded take to deliver (maximum delivery time) and is there any possible way of tracking it? It has been 4 working days now so was just wondering if anybody has experienced this long a of a delivery time, or has it just been lost in the post!?

    Thanks, Brad

According to the Post Office website 1st class recorded delivery is 1 day. The sender should have a tracking number which you can request from him. You will then be able to track the parcel and see if it's been signed for or if still in transport.

We had a signed for package once that got signed for by someone unknown to us and we had a long 3 week argument with Royal Mail saying we never received it.

Hopefully this hasnt happened to you. So contact the sender and get some details and go from there.
Everyone is allowed a stupid day but you are abusing the privilege

I sent something two weeks back by 1st class recorded, from London to Leeds, was told it would arrive the next day. Only was received about two days back. It seems to be pretty erratic, often it will be fast, more often, a week or so

Indeed, 1st Class Recorded is supposed to be next day delivery if sent out early enough (before 15:30 I think). However, I mailed something to Utrinque Paratus last week and it took 2 days, despite me mailing it at 8:30 in the morning. You get a receipt when you pay with a tracking number on it (that's the whole point of it being 'recorded'

Someone posted me something first recorded and it took a week once.

Is it an AEG? If so its doubtful it could have been posted first recorded, as there is size and weight limits i believe.

Whenever I have posted an AEG, it has had to be parcelforce.

Either way, there should be a tracking number.

I will be at the NAE 27th-30th August and replies to messages may be slow, bear with me!

depends on the post office I find. my post office at uni always makes me go parcelforce. my one at home lets me do 1st class. dunno why though

4 working days is pretty soon to start worrying. Royal mail dont class it as lost until 4 weeks i beleive. it is normally next day but not guarenteed

bet it got sent standard parcels due to its size, 5-7 days

I was thinking that its happened to me as well although standard parcels for me only take 2 days 3 on a bad day but it varies where you live.

                        Re: Royal Mail recorded delivery.

                        Hiya guys,

I thought I'd chip in (and apologies if I'm covering the same ground as someone else) but I was under the impression that RM 1st Class Recorded Delivery only insured the item being posted to a value of approximately £40. Also I was under the impression that the long number at the bottom of the reciept wasn't a 'tracking number' as such but a unique item number that allowed the buyer and the sender to check that the item has been signed for upon arrival. I believe while the item is in transit you can't check its progress. If I remember correctly its only the Special Delivery service from RM that has a tracking number (If someone else knows better please do correct me as I'm not 100% sure).

                        Cheers,

                        Tom

                          Re: Royal Mail recorded delivery.

It does only cover up to £40 but you can take out additional cover at extra cost. You're right, technically it isn't a tracking number so you can't see it's progress, only when it's been delivered, so I suppose you could say it does track it in that the sender can track it's arrival

I did make sure the item was insured up to £250. And I feel really bad that he hasn't recieved delivery of it yet.

The thing I find amusing is how RM actually have a "track and trace" option, yet I've never been able to "track" any parcel.

Just bear with it for a few more days. Remember that RM only consider the package lost after 15 days, and 30 days if it was sent via SP. (Don't quote me on that though). If it's not here by Tuesday, take it further.

(Wow isn't it funny how that was posted as the same time as you, starscream...?)
