Best RIS mountable torch?
19 September, 2010, 23:04
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering what torch people uses mounted to their gun?
Im after a powerful torch that can be ris mounted but im not sure which one to pick.
I currently use an led torch but dont find it to be bright enough.
Thanks.

Re: Best RIS mountable torch?
I suppose its how many LED's the torch holds. The bog standard ones usually only have 3 LED's but the better ones have 9 or more.

Something like these would be the best I would say:
*link removed*
Quite pricey but they are very nice, very solid.
They are modular so you can upgrade the heads etc and you can add IR filters etc if you can find them in the uk.

Re: Best RIS mountable torch?
Element surefire clone 951. A few guys on here bought one on my recommendation, and I am pretty sure if they read this they will concur that for 50 Dorrar from HK they are a cracking bit of kit. They are so good they even have the SF logos in the right places, and some guys I know at The Mall couldn't tell the difference from a real deal one I had.

I agree the element clones are pretty good especially for the money and very bright, got a scoutlight clone and a real one. I'd say it's not to hard to tell which is which though.
I'd hope so too as the real one is many times the price.

I'd go with the element SF clones too.
I've got the two scout lights they do (M600 & M300) and I can't really fault them.
The only real downside is the standard switch is a click on type rather than a pressure one but that can be fixed in about 5 mins.

Re: Best RIS mountable torch?
I have a surefire LX2, which I would certainly recomend if you can afford something like it. Its very lightweight, so dosen't make your gun weight a ton. It's 200lux, which may not sound like a lot when you look at cheap torches on ebay etc, but it's all about focusing not about raw power. It is literally the smallest, most rugged 200 lumen torch on the market at the moment.
For a cheaper, but also surprisingly good option, is the Lenser P7. Bright, durable and affordable. I'm intending to get one for my gun and retiring the LX2 for day-to-day use and a handheld backup, which is more what it is designed for.

Re: Best RIS mountable torch?
The 951 comes with both a pressure switch and push button one as per the real deal. Also the bulbs are 200 lumens too. I get about 100 yrds range on mine and the focus is pin sharp.
Can't say a lot about the M600 and 300 in comparison to the clones, as I have never really seen them side by side. But it is really hard to tell the 951 and 961 from the real ones.
Rumour has it that the element 951 and 961's were actually surefire real steels that had failed qc, and element bought them. They then felt tipped the trades off, and resold them. Whether this is true or not I don't know, but they are certainly pretty high quality for the price, and coming from a clone company.

I don't think that rumour can be right. I've only seen a picture of a M961 clone but there are some big visual differences to the real one.
The XM tail cap on he real one has the tightening nut on the cap so that it can spin when tightened, the clone seems to have a fake bigger nut attached to the torch body. The remote cable looks different, it has a shorter bit that attaches to the torch which looks like it screws in. The real one clips in.
The LED head for a real one is £175 so I doubt they have the same bulb, the replcement xenon bulb is £35 on it's own.
The surefire LED is quoted at 100 lumens as they don't inflate the brightness or runtime figures.

Surefires indeed rock, but they cost a small fortune, its like buying the ferrari of torches and you have to pay for the brand
