i've got stuff off the forum your talking about (from USA) and they normally label it as airsoft parts/toy parts so its never/rarely stopped and I've never had anything siezed.......

Shouldn't pay vat if it's 2nd hand - theoretically as any sales tax has already been paid at source.

Are you 100% on that? I've been charged duty on secondhand watches and other things in the past.
You don't pay anything if it's within the EEC but outside that they charge.
Otherwise you could just get someone to use something for a day then send it as secondhand. Comming through customs at an airport they will charge you the duty unless you took it out with you.
I may be getting confused with vat and import duty though.
