Re: Barrels effected by temperature?
I have done something very usefull today.
I measured one of my old barrels this morning at basement room temperature, poss arround 1 -2 deg, it is brass and measured 6.08 with a digi caliper.
I then put it out side the basement door in two inches of snow buried for three or so hours then measured it again....
Low and behold....6.05mm
So that will do for me.
Gun tech.

Re: Barrels effected by temperature?
Just to conclude.
Laid the same brass barrel on the radiator in the dining room for an hour or so 6.10mm
That will be proof enough for me.

Re: Barrels effected by temperature?
i agree,
and if you still think the bore of the barrel will get bigger during cooling..well, your just wrong
Prepare for the worst, but expect the best.

Re: Barrels effected by temperature?
This post should have been concluded about 19 posts ago.
When metal gets hot it "expands" and when it get cold it "contracts" SIMPLE
The only issue i have experianced in the cold is issues with my hop rubber causing jams because it had got colder, harder and slightly tighter due to the temperature. Not my barrle size changing by 10mm + or - and not it warping either. (I can only imagin this to happen if the barrle was really hot 100+ deg and then subjected to - temps)
I cant believe people struggle with this.

Re: Barrels effected by temperature?
Obviously it helps people who do. That and there was some pretty persuasive maths given. I started to doubt myself....Obviously I didn't need to.
