Removing paint from plastic.
9 January, 2011, 23:39
Any recommend ways of doing it?
I've tried white spirit and it has not worked.
(I've spray painted my stock OD and realised my hand guard etc and all DE and can't seem to get the paint off)
Should i just spray paint over it?

Sandpaper, from rough through to fine usually works for me. Just go easy, spend some time on it

Will it leave it ruff or smooth?

Thats why you use various grades of sandpaper...
Personally Id start with a medium grade Wet n Dry, sand it all down til its getting very thin and patchy, almost through to the original colour, then switch to a fine grade wet n dry, sand it down as smooth as you can get it. Then rub the whole thing down with white spirit and leave it to dry, so you get all the grease and oils and crap from your skin off of it. Then give it a couple of light coats of primer first, then respray it.
Its a long process, but the results will look better than "fuck it, just spray over it". If youre gonna do something, do it properly

Flash power spray. Spray it on , leave for 20 minutes ( more if the coat is thicker) and rub with a brush or cloth of your choice. Works very nicely.

Re: Removing paint from plastic.
hi
i model and some times buy secondhand stuff that has been badly painted the way i remove the paint is by placing the part in a sealable plastic bag and spray mr muscle oven cleaner in, seal the bag and leave for a little bit, depending on the type of paint that is being removed will depend on how long to leave it, wash off with water and the plastic is as good as new.
NOTE i would test a little if you can first, i have never damaged and plastic doing this but a all plastics are different .
hope it helps
