Battery performance test.
6 February, 2011, 21:43
Not sure which section this should go in really so if someone decides to swap it thats fine by me.
I thought as I hadn't seen this anywhere befor I would do something usefull today.
I havn't seen anybody do a battery comparrison test so I thought I would demonstrate the performance of different batteries on the same gear box. Particularly as I am awaiting parts to complete my new CA33. I rebuilt the gear box over the last week including sorbo pads. The list of parts are as follows :
SHS Max torque motor.
Classic Army standard ratio gears. Modified by me.
SHS stainless spring guide with bearings.
SHS M110 spring.
SHS Supercore clone piston, modified by me.
Action aluminium bearing back piston head kit.
Element pom piston head.
Element cylinder matching barrel length.
SHS tappet plate.
Element double seal brass cylinder head.
SHS aluminium annodised air nozzle.
SHS shims.
7mm solid bushings.
Supprisingly this does still have the stock Classic Army gear set in, yes ok they have been modified as has the piston but still standard ratio none the less.
So first up is a small (it is tiny even compared to a NiHM's mini battery) 1750 mAh 7.4V 20C LiPo. The dims are, 94x33x14mm but does come supplied with 12 AWG wire and XT60 connectors.
This is the result.

Second is a Nano tech 2200mAh 7.4 25C.
Another small battery, 112x35x18mm and has 12 AWG wire and XT60 connectors.

Thirdly is vertually the same as the one above but rated as 35C continuous discharge. 2200 mAh 7.4v 35C
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np5zXQFT7CA
The last in line for the time being as I need to wire a fet in is a very small 11.1v 1550 mAh 20C. Dimensions are, 91x34x20mm. Wired with 12 AWG wire and an XT60 plug.

I have three more that I could use including an 18.5, but while I think if a jobs worth doing its worth over doing. This gear box was built to run a small 7.4 battery with out a fet. So it lasted ok. But I do tend to over engineer things.
If I ran it on the same battery thats in my M41, I would expect this to run at arround 45 a sec. With the 18.5 being close to 50. But this box isn't set up for that and never will be.
Thank you for looking and I hope it has been of some use.

Re: Battery performance test.
Thats what I was thinking, show people more or less what they can expect.
Not seen anyone do this befor so popped into the workshop, batteries and charger clutched in one hand and off I went.
I charged each of the batteries prior to testing them. What has really supprised me is that my latest gun the CA33 will have the smallest of these in the stock.
Also I found all those batteries for sale and available in the UK.

Re: Battery performance test.
Well yeah as i said good idea, as sometimes you can buy a battery, especially lipo, and be dissapointed in one way or another, threads like this opens peoples eyes as to what they want/need.

Re: Battery performance test.
Just thought I would up date this and show you what can be achieved with a decent battery.
The gear box is custom built by me, not giving away any secrets.
Enjoy.

Re: Battery performance test.
I'll reserve my judgement on the usefulness of such crazy ROF in a game, but that last video was pretty damn insane I have to say. It almost doesn't seem physically possible in my mind that little airsoft parts can handle being moved about so quick!
Congrats on the CA33 though! My first gun was one of those! So beautiful... but hardly ever seen
I think the curved 5.56 mag + the general G3 look is lovely
Formerly 'Waltzinblack' but thought it was time to incorporate my Team callsign into my name

Re: Battery performance test.
I have skirmished it once but would never use burst like that unless it is at extreme last knockings of range. coupled with tiny bursts. I have a burst fet to fit into it. It's 40 a sec.
I guess I can add this one to it too then...lol

Re: Battery performance test.
Good good. I'm all for stuff like that for fun. :D
But if somebody gave me a burst of that in game, once I'd picked the 20 - 30 BB's from my skin, they might be trying to pull a whole weapon out their....

Re: Battery performance test.
I too would be pretty miffed if I got hit by a monster rof gun in inexperianced hands, so I wouldn't do that to anyone. To the point I would take a hit rather than fire close up if it wasn't on single shot.

Re: Battery performance test.
I'm pretty sure 30 BB's in one spot from close up would actually do some quite nasty damage - so no, not what people sign up for!
