  • DMR whats the point when ????????

    Bonjourno

Right my local site CSouth has a site limit of 350 fps for AEG's and 400 for bolt action rifles.

So that out of the way ! i have a m14 and want to use it as a DMR, however it wont make much sense as it i will only ever range as far as any other rifle on 350 fps (correct me if I am wrong but this is what the zeroone techy said on the phone) as they don’t allow semi auto rifles on 400fps I might as well sell up and get a m4 like everyone else unless there is a solution to gain even more range with the limit of 350fps , I know marui m14 are great I just feel like the fps limit undermines the role of the dmr what do you guys think.

Please correct me on any point need answers

With a good hop you can get superb range without mucho FPS.

FPS doesn't equal range. Get a good hop (TM ones probably are good enough anyway), and a good tightbore and you're away!

You could also talk to the site owners and say your gun will be locked to semi etc, and ask if you are allowed up to 400fps?

        *facepalm*

        FPS does not equal range.

I guarantee you a properly set up 280fps TM M14 will outrange, lets say, a 400FPS CYMA/AGM M14. Z1 techy obviously doesnt know what he's talking about.

The techy at zeroone was like you need a TB and it to be shooting 400fps ? nothing about hop strange , so what would i need to look for ? new rubber etc please all the advice is greatly appretiated

Wait, do you have a TM one? If not buy a TM hop up!

Well.. TM M14s with stock fps will outrange nearly any M4, unless said M4 owner has gone to the trouble of buying an expensive prometheus hop unit and firefly rubbers and such.

so don't 'get an M4 like everyone else' because M14 hops are much better. at 350fps with 0.25s (MAYBE 0.28s) it'll go so far it'll basically be a DMR anyway. just upgrade the spring to somewhere around 340/350 (enables you to use 0.25s effectively), get a nice prommy tightbore and POSSIBLY upgrade the hop innards to firefly and enjoy.

And to be honest, at 400fps.. those bolty snipers haven't really got ENOUGH extra punch that they will be seriously outranging you. It's only after sort of 60/70fps differences that you really notice it in a skirmish.

Get an M14 and be different :D

EDIT: also... don't always take Zeroone's advice...

DMR as a role depends if your site allows higher FPS for semi. Otherwise, as you say, there's absolutely no advantage.

So much tosh being bandied around again...

If you want an m14, get one. It's not magically better than anything else, the hop isn't this incredible design that pushes the BB out further... It's just a bloody bit of rubber being poked by a lever...

Don't let all this unfounded technical guff put you off. Just buy an M14 and use it like a DMR. Job done.

If you can even find a firefly hop rubber anywhere it will cost you in the region of £15-25, for a tiny piece of rubber. Personally Id just go with Guarder clear, or even stick with a standard TM rubber, Ive always had good results from them.

                        Edit:

                        Also what B.E.N said :P

If it's a TM I'd simply stick a tight bore in it and then look at getting it upgraded to 350fps then run it on .25s as a minimum.
You'll be very surprised at the range you get with it.

If you are upgrading the spring, I'd strongly suggest a set of Guarder steel gears and a hardened cut-off lever whilst you have the thing open... This is because they will keep the gun running trouble free for as long as possible.

They don't like being repeatedly cracked open, and the take down isn't exactly straightforward.

Challenge accepted. You bring a TM M4, I will bring a TM M14 and we will see which hops better and goes further.

They have the same fps (give or take) and the same make rubber.. so tell me.. if the TM M14 goes further, which I am extremely confident that it will.. what could possibly make the difference other than a better design of hop chamber?

                              I take my leave.
