A recommendation and 1 or 2 tips for buyers/sellers
7 July, 2009, 16:49
Hello people.
Again I see people having difficulties with their trading, so again I've returned to offer a few little bits of advice in the hopes that some of you will take it and be saved of your money and items.
The Feedback, posts and 'excuses'
If dealing with someone completely new to the forums, try to avoid selling them your most precious and high value items over PayPal. Allow them to pay with Cheque, direct pick up, cash or postal order, not PayPal. PayPal is far too insecure and does not cover airsoft guns as part of their insurance I believe as it's a replica weapon.
I recommend PayPal for the well known users who have PayPal or at least 2-3 positive feedbacks. Check with the other buyers/sellers to see how their trading went and make sure it went alright.
If buying off someone with a low amount of posts and no feedback, be very very wary. Pay by PayPal if you like or try for a direct pickup if you feel you can do that. With PayPal you can dispute your transaction, though it is quite possible that someone could just send an empty package and tell PayPal they sent the item you bought. Because it wasn't bought using a web form or eBay, PayPal cannot tell if the item you claim you bought is actually what it is. Therefore, any item sent with a tracking number can be counted as a sent item and can be used as proving of sending, which is enough for PayPal to cancel your dispute.
If your trade drags on for 1-2 weeks with rubbish excuses, dispute it instantly and get your money back. Buy your item elsewhere or new from Zero One.
Overall, any users with low posts and no feedback, be careful with them. Some are genuine but some are not. Take as many precautions as you can and in the end you'll turn out fine.

yes but they pay you first, its not like they can take the money back
-just had a thought - do you mean if your product is not broken etc and they get refund but keep item?

Like I said, accept something that you're safer with like a cheque or cash. PayPal, they CAN take the money back even if you send the gun. It's a crap system.

They can with a cheque too. Never send the item until the cheque has cleared!
