spring vs gas sniper rifle
19 January, 2009, 23:02
i have two aeg rifs that are classed as snipers rifles, one is an spr and the other is an mp5 with an extended inner barrel and extra long silencer, both with bi-pods and scopes, there has been some discussions about not being able to use them on certain sites because they can be used on full auto, and also the fps on the spr is about 350, and the mp5 is 320.....so for me technically i wouldnt call them true sniper rifles, so in my opinion would have to be single shot bolt action...pushing 400fps plus which also means more skill involved i.e. you have be able to judge your distances in order to shoot someone.... the question is, which type is more prefered ,a spring powered or gas operated, and what make and model?.....i quite like the ideas of a decent springer knowing that temperatures cannot effect the performance

Re: spring vs gas sniper rifle
Well when you say preferred then it's on personal preference, but on factual performance, a spring rifle will take a gas rifle (unless it's an expensive regulated HPA) hands down every time.
The only advantage I can see to a gas set up, is ease and speed of bolt cycle.
Again, as long as it's not a clone, it all depends on what you like the look of, but the VSR is the most common choice.

Get spring, it's more accurate, reliable, cheap, consistent and light.

Cash for gas doesn't really come into it when you're running CO2. It can be cheaper to run an escort MP5 on CO2, than it is a TM MP5 off a battery.
Spring is more practical.
