Re: possible daft question
I am sure there is a difference between the 2 but they both do the same thing really.

Re: possible daft question
No real difference but RAS tends to be a free floating system and RIS tends to be supported by the barrel (ie not free floating)
Also RIS is the last gen version of RAS, and many will argue that RAS better secures attachments due to an improved design, but in airsoft it really makes no difference, RIS and RAS are incorrectly used interchangeably like information and data, but it's become so common that it doesn't really matter.

Re: possible daft question
RIS - rail inteface system
RAS - rail accessory system.
means the same to me
trading WE M16A1 for CYMA or RS SVD with PSOP

Re: possible daft question
I thought ris is one that attaches to the delta ring, ras attaches to the receiver.

Re: possible daft question
I think its down to the what the manufacturer calls it.
The only standard is M1913 Picatinny or the more modern STANAG 4694 NATO rail system

Re: possible daft question
So, with all this "Hoo-Ha!" between RIS and RAS.......
What's a 'Picatinny' when it's at home?
There's a scammer operating openly on this forum. Please be aware of who you're dealing with.

Re: possible daft question
I've always been under the assumption that ras is free floating and ris is split?
Picatinny? Don't they have something to do with those god ugly g36's ;-)

Re: possible daft question
Picatinny is the name given to the rail as it was originally tested at the picatinny research centre in new jersey. All the rails are the same, they are just named differently due to The companies who hold copyright, there is a difference in the WEAVER rail spacings on the rail where I believe the other 3 are standardised spacing.
Might have just made that all up though!!
