14 May, 2011, 16:07
just bought a fancy new one from the hiking brand, karrimor
it tastes like feces
and wondered if there was any way of getting rid of the disgusting taste you sometimes get with these things
i did try search i put in the title of this thread and it told me to use more than 3 letters so i gave up

Re: cleaning water bladders
The plasticky taste takes a couple of uses to go away. For general cleaning I suggest you get a Camelback cleaning kit. Oh and washing it out with hot water sometimes helps.

There are cleaning tabs from gelert but they are expensive at about 8 quid for 3
or you could rinse it out with salt water for every litre
Then rinse out with warm water then use again

My issue camelback was the same. Not nice when it's your only source of water for 8 hours of boarding ops.
section 24 of the 1968 Act
Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

Miltons is the answer, get it from just about any chemist. It`s used to sterilise baby bottles, they normally have the long handled cleaning brushes as well. A helluva lot cheaper than specialised bladder cleaning kit.

This threads been done before but to dry your bladder get some practice golf balls( the ones with holes in) and put them in your bladder after washing, it keeps the bladder open and allows air to circulate.

Don't forget to store in a freezer after every use. This normally keeps it bacteria free.

Re: cleaning water bladders
Buy a supermarket's own budget baby tablets, there's no point in paying out extra for named brand stuff.
I used to use 1 Tesco value tablet to clean a 60 litre water system in my caravan, so a small bit of a tablet should do the trick.

Re: cleaning water bladders
I always freeze mine instead of waiting 3 weeks for the thing to dry out, much easier ;-)
