How did you learn to fix/shim your gearbox?

Hello people.
As the title suggests, how did you first learn? I'm not sure if I should buy a cheap gun to upgrade myself or try upgrading one of my high end guns. (TM SOPMOD) the reason I want to know, is to save myself money in the long term.

I waited until I had a gun break and figured opening it up probably wouldn't make it any more broken!

Pretty much this. One day my scar gearbox exploded (literally, the front end of it sheared right off) and I figured "well... not like I can make things any worse!" and I was actually pleasently surprised at how easy it is.

It might be worth trying to find a boneyard gun for cheap to experiment with.

Experience. Or trial and error. Find an old gun that you don't mind screwing about with and work on that.

Through despiration... Make sure you open your gearbox the right way, or your gears will fall out... haha

Just ask around for a broken gun. Or if you know anyone that knows their way around internals ask to sit in on them next time they do any work. Or Luke others have said you tube cam be good or there are other sites with guides

As above. I recommend an AK Varient, as its ridiculously easy to disassemble as well as a great gearbox to work on, the V3! My first gun to open its mechbox was a Dboys AK74N

Youtube, a friend of mine and squadmate is a techie and owns an airsoft store back in Portugal, trial and error.
