What do you stick in your M249
26 July, 2011, 13:03
So I just bought myself a new shiny A+K M249(330Fps out of the box) from War and Peace, and got a couple of 8.4v 1100Mah thrown in with the deal. I have been told these have solid gearboxes and the seller is running a 11v Lipo in his.
I have nothing to show really other than a basic out of the box. Lets see what you have and what you have, and what are you using to power it?
Nick
It seems like such a terrible shame that innocent civilians have to get hurt in wars, otherwise combat would be such a wonderfully healthy way to rid the human race of unneeded trash.

Cheers buddy..Believe me the Mrs complained the mile back to the car, then the 60 miles back to Aldershot. She went for an Afternoon nap and asked me to wake her. I dry fired it above her head.... Done the trick!

I'd be a bit wary of running 11v lipos in a stock one , mine had a full gear box up-grade by the previous owner (knows his way around gear boxes so I know he did a good job) and it handled a 11v'ter ok but wouldn't want to stick it in a stock A&K249 . But still a damb fun gun !

Gearbox aside, the stock trigger switch isnt really up to the kind of juice a high-discharge 11.1v battery will put through it.

Re: What do you stick in your M249
I'll let you know tonight when i put my first battery into it. im thinking a 9.6 will be more than enough in my STAR so the boxmag can feed consistantly (maybe abit of a contradiction to anyone who knows the STAR's) but yeah, cant fault another 249 thread :D
'It shockingly outranges many m16's and ak's. I have taped both mags together for added firepower and reliablity.'

Yup, that pretty much covers it!
I used to run a 1400mAh mini in mine, but then went for a 2000mAh saddle pack. I sold it not too long ago, but if I still had it I'd run it on a 7.4v lipo

Re: What do you stick in your M249
Mine runs on 7.4v 20c lipo fine and has done for over a year with lots of use and no issues. What has been said about the trigger switch is true, mine died after about 10,000 rounds and this was when I was running on 9.6v ni-mh.
The only mod I have done is a custom programmed mosfet - it will do full auto and programable burst mode - although I have to switch it off and back on to select the mode on boot up, not as quick as a manual fire select switch! The mosfet also has motor braking and lipo monitoring.
Any way... I ramble, in summary 7.4v lipo is fine and a mosfet is a good plan - dead easy to fit as well.

Re: What do you stick in your M249
Cheers for the feedback guys.. So take for instance if I were to buy a Venom 9.6v 4200mah Nimh Hump Battery or equivalent from this fine website. That would do the trick?
The voltage is the power that is sent through the weapon, and the mah is how long it will last? Just confirm Nimh doesn't mean lipo..? I am tempted, but not just yet

Re: What do you stick in your M249
nimh is NOT lipo, the number of volts is the power and mah is how long it will last. Personally I only use lipos as they are kinder on your rifle and your 249 is heavy anyway without a damn nimh in it!

Re: What do you stick in your M249
I will never ever go back to ni-mh, lipo is the only way forward for me. Did you say you had the para model m249? If so I am sure the only battery that will fit in handguard is a mini type if you use ni-mh, so that monster venom battery won't fit.

Re: What do you stick in your M249
Its's a Mk2 with the solid stock so loads of battery room, but I hear what you say about the extra weight.. Need to get some sort of shoulder strap. Thanks very much to everyone for your help.
