Wet roads + RWD is no more dangerous than FWD tbh
yeah but both are completely opposite in terms of how to handle the rear wheels stepping out.
fwd you should speed up, to pull the wheels in, and rwd you should slow down,
but really when its wet you have even less time to react than normal.
Glad no Airsofters were harmed in the making of this thread.
Get well lads.

Re: accident this morning
Were pretty lucky to be honest how we have come out of it.
I'm stuck on painkillers for my lower back for the time being but we were lucky to come away with just that really
Ruined my Sunday shoot dammit!

In RWD, you should balance the throttle and steering (preferably one hand on the wheel, arm resting on the window, maybe a smoke hanging nonchalantly from your mouth) and catch it just right to powerslide out of trouble...
On a serious note though, glad no-one was seriously hurt. Cars can be replaced, body parts are a bit trickier to work on

If it is gone past the point of no return there is nothing you can do. If you have a wide open space you could bring it back but unfortunately roads are a set width with signs, kerbs, trees etc to hit.
The new Beetles are based on a Golf so are all front wheel drive. The old bugs are rear wheel drive with the engine sat far too far back so when they go they really go (old 911's used to suffer from this).
You should never loose the back end on a FWD car. The only time this will happen is if you lift off (or brake) mid corner and let the back end get light. Most FWD will under-steer into corners - lift off slightly, let the weight transfer forwards (back end will get light!!) the extra weight / slight slowing will allow the front to get grip then back progressively on the power hopefully before the arse has stepped out (all this to happen in a split second!!). Come on the power too much and you will start the skid process again!!
As for 4WD cars - they under-steer into corners and over-steer on the exits with all this magnified by the amount of power you have. They are just easier to control the under-steer and compensate for the over-steer.

Re: accident this morning
I do enjoy track days!! Airfield days are better as there is far more room to run off when you lose it!! I can talk the talk and stand a chance of recovering a slide, but you have to make your decisions in a split second or it is all lost. I've lost it plenty of times!! I've seen plenty of extremely good drivers put their pride and joy into various race-track barriers.
I have also smashed up various cars over the years by driving badly on the road. A Mk3 Escort was lost in an under-steering moment and ended up upside down in a ditch. A MG Metro left planted in the back of a Mazda 323 after sliding on wet leaves while driving too fast in bad conditions. Actually I stoved the front of the same Metro into the back of an Astra on a previous occaision but that was just me not consentrating while waiting at a roundabout.
I have exited a large roundabout backwards through 2 lanes of traffic ending up parked rear end buried in a snowdrift after finding an ice patch under a bridge. How I didn't hit any other car was a miracle!! That was in a Fiat Uno Turbo.
And I spun an early MR2 in the middle of a busy roundabout after losing the back end, catching it but over correcting and having it kick back the other way twice as bad!!
I now save my stupidity for on the track!!

No I just had a very heavy right foot when I was younger and learnt my lessons the hard and expensive way. I'm 36 now and have 13 years no-claims bonus. All my accidents happened between 1992 and 1997. Apart from 1 or 2 speeding offences I have been a good boy.
There have been stacks of other 'almosts' but I have got away with them!!
